Job Description

If you are adept at identifying and solving cybersecurity issues on mission system platforms, designing and troubleshooting technical solutions, and enjoy collaborating with multiple teams, we may have the perfect role for you! As a Principal Cybersecurity Engineer, you will be using your skills and expertise to design, test, and implement cybersecurity solutions for our mission platforms and the labs and production equipment used to design and build them. You'll be responsible for the cyber tools, applications, incident response, digital forensics, loss prevention, and eDiscovery actions, conducting risk and vulnerability assessments, and developing and implementing security controls. You'll research, evaluate, and recommend new security tools, techniques, and technologies in alignment with our organizational cybersecurity strategy and introduce them to our mission engineers. You will be responsible for identification and development of cybersecurity standards, requirements and test plans for integration with our systems engineering and integration team. Additionally, you will be responsible for cyber threat identification, evaluation, prioritization, and remediation activities under the direction of the Chief Information Security Officer. You'll continuously review existing and proposed changes to Sierra Space systems, networks, and software designs, and responsible for analyzing logging and alerting data, and identifying and escalating potential security events.
Sierra Space, based in Louisville, Colorado with operations in Madison, Wisconsin, Durham, North Carolina, and Kennedy Space Center, Florida, designs and manufactures advanced spacecraft, satellites, propulsion and environmental systems, spacecraft subsystems and components for the U.S. government (including NASA), commercial customers and international organizations. Must Haves:
  • Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Network Engineering, Information Technology, or related Engineering discipline and typically 14 or more years of relevant experience
  • Related experience may be considered in lieu of required education
  • Demonstrated experience either engineering, supporting, or applying cybersecurity to mission systems, industrial control systems or operational technology
  • Expert knowledge of cybersecurity principles, methods, and techniques
  • Advanced understanding of cyber-attack path modeling, data flow analysis or cyber vulnerabilities
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance may be required. Learn more about the background check process for Security Clearances

Preferred:
  • CISSP, CISSP-ISSEP, or CISM Certification
  • MCSE, Linux, and/or CCNP Security Certification
  • Knowledge of DoD, government contracting and/or public auditing, policies, standards, and procedures (esp. NIST 800-82, NIST 800-66, CNSSI 1253)
  • Experience in applying cybersecurity to mission platforms (satellite systems, aircraft, ground control segments etc.)
  • Knowledge of ARINC 429 or MIL STD 1553 architectures
  • Experience with cybersecurity tools sets
  • Ability to perform critical-incident response
  • Understanding of mission system architectures and communication protocols

Estimated Starting Salary Range: $154,786.56 - $212,831.52
Sierra Space offers annual incentive pay based upon performance that is commensurate with the level of the position.
