Job Title: Principal Optical Engineer
Location: Johns Creek, Georgia
Summary of Position:
Alcon is recruiting a Principal Optical Engineer to deliver innovation for its next generation ophthalmic lens products. Partnering with cross-functional teams, the individual will leverage expert level optical design skills using Zemax, CAD and programming tools, to deliver the designs for projects ranging from early feasibility through late-stage development.
Key Responsibilities
- Advancement of ophthalmic technology (e.g., refractive and diffractive optics, presbyopia correction technology, predictive optical modelling).
- Delivers optical designs, opto-mechanical designs, modelling, metrology analyses, and associated deliverables aligned to project milestones.
- Demonstrates latitude, independence and leadership in their assignments.
- Applies state-of-the-art knowledge of the organization's technologies and processes, serves as an internal consultant for technical issues, related to optics, lens design and vision correction technologies.
- Applies Interdisciplinary considerations of lens performance drivers and methods to delivery optimal solutions.
- Organizational awareness (i.e., inter-relationship of departments, business priorities), including significant experience working cross-functionally, cross-franchise and in global teams.
- Effective collaboration with project heads, functional managers, MTO and cross-franchise SMEs to support R&D targets and project milestones.
- Compliance to all regulatory, quality and safety requirements.
Preferred Knowledge and Skills:
- Optical design: Expert level (Zemax preferred)
- Programming: MATLAB (preferred) or Python
- CAD (CREO preferred)
- Experience with diffractive optics preferred
- Experience with optical metrology and fabrications systems
- Experience with ophthalmic technology preferred
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Key Requirements/Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school +13 yrs; Assoc.+9 yrs; M.S.+2 yrs; PhD+0 yrs)
- The ability to fluently read, write, understand and communicate in English
- 5 Years of Relevant Experience
- Work hours: 40 hours
- Travel Requirements: 10-20%
