Job Description

As Principal Product Manager you will be responsible for driving product strategy to deliver industry leading customer focused solutions. This is a strategic role with emphasis on understanding customer needs and identifying market opportunities that will shape our governance product portfolio and roadmap to achieve strategic business goals.  The Principal Product Manager will develop the product strategy, opportunity analysis and validate business cases with requirements defined. This position works alongside the Chief Product Officer to formulate strong product concepts and communicate the product vision to align stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

Drive key activities in developing the Product Strategy, including vision setting and communicating the product vision and strategy to align stakeholders across the business, from CSuite level to development teams.
Lead the execution of strategic product research processes including business case development (good/better-best pricing strategy and revenue modeling), market research, user research and competitive analysis.
Build and maintain close relationships with Product Operations, Engineering, Design, Sales, Customer Success, and Marketing functions to ensure that the product roadmap and product initiatives are understood by those teams and given sufficient consideration during their planning cycles; ensure that those functions are consulted during key stages of the Strategic Product Refinement.
Build key relationships with customers and partners and engage with them for the purposes of gaining insight and uncovering needs to help inform the product strategy and roadmap.
Collect and analyze data from (1) product usage metrics, (2) customer feedback, (3) in-house stakeholders, (4) industry experts, and (5) competitor data for the purpose of interpreting data to inform product decisions and feature requirements.
Provide guidance and oversight to support Product Operations and Engineering teams throughout the software delivery lifecycle.
Run feature brainstorming sessions and strategic workshops to define and shape product requirements. Develop detailed user personas to help inform product strategy.
Be the principal stakeholder in product launches including being a ‘voice’ of the Product Department with product marketing, sales, and customer success.
Work with the Product Operations stakeholders to create product roadmaps and plans. Develop and review feature requirements artifacts (e.g., concept documents).  Make creative recommendations for expanding the product vision and usage. Be actively involved in quarterly/yearly roadmap and capacity planning.
Partner with finance on revenue modeling for new product initiatives.
Make smart trade-offs between desired product outcomes, business objectives, company resources and time.
Speak at company and external events, in-person and virtual, to communicate our vision and product strategy.
Keep abreast of developments in governance across all sectors, in particular (1) the board’s role in the oversight of matters of emerging interest to an organization’s stakeholders, (2) legislative and regulatory changes, and (3) governance operations.
 

Skills and Experience Needed:

Bachelor’s Degree
8 – 10 years of experience working in the governance, risk and compliance software market – or another highly-regulated software market such as local, state or federal government.
5 - 7 years product management experience working in high-performance teams in fast-paced, digitally native organizations.
Experience of managing user research projects, collecting, and analyzing research data.
Experience running product strategy workshops and working with Agile teams.
Proven customer facing skills with experience in building sustainable and substantive relationships with customers and partners and a proven track record of innovating on behalf of customers.
A passion for promulgating our vision and product strategy, and for corporate and stakeholder governance topics more broadly.
Ability to weigh competing priorities, manage trade-offs and evaluate opportunistic ideas, driving pragmatic decision making while maintaining a clear focus on overarching business priorities.
Superior communication skills: communicate clearly and concisely, including with senior leadership, and can tailor your message to the audience. Be a skilled public speaker, in-person and virtually.
