The Central AI team's vision is to accelerate AI innovation across Atlassian by building the core infrastructure, key capabilities and experiences. Search is one of the key capabilities owned by Central AI. Superior search is not only critical for providing a great user experience, but it also underpins various AI experiences and capabilities. Search relevance and quality is at the heart of superior search. Search relevance and quality is a huge area of focus for Atlassian. We're looking at not only improving search across first-party( i.e. Atlassian's own) products, but also when we bring in data from other products to serve to our customers. Not only that, we're looking at how we continue to provide highly relevant and high quality responses as search moves into a conversational paradigm. Clearly, there are lots of exciting problems to solve!
As the Principal Product Manager for this area, you will set and drive the vision, strategy and execution to bring in best in class relevance and quality in our search and AI experiences. We're looking to accelerate our efforts to improve search in our products and are also in early stages of our AI journey, so you have an excellent opportunity to shape the future in this space. You will report to the Group Product Manger for Central AI in this role.
What you'll do
- Set and own the vision and strategy for Search relevance and quality i.e. paint a picture of what great looks like and how to get there. Drive the execution to bring the vision to life i.e. make it happen.
- Partner with teams across Atlassian building search and AI experiences to identify and drive relevance and quality improvements. Be the champion for relevance and quality.
- Bring a strong customer understanding on where search relevance and quality are not meeting the mark and address the gaps.
- Craft stories and narratives to share with our customers and the broader community about the progress we're making in Search relevance and quality.
Your background
- 8+ years of Product Management experience. You have strong recent experience in Enterprise Search, especially in relevance and quality. Proficiency in measurement and metrics for relevance and quality. nDCG, MRR are not some random combination of alphabets for you but are bread and butter for success in your role!
- You have deep empathy for user needs. You care deeply about providing high quality Search experience to users. You get down to the to the last level of detail figure out why that one query didn't get the relevant result!
- You have a strong technical subject matter expertise and love jumping into the details to figure things out with the team. You have a strong understanding of various search, natural language processing, and machine learning technologies.
- You are very close to data and use data heavily to inform your thinking and decisions. You are hands-on in working with data and can independently analyse trends, problem areas and show customer impact through data.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. You can engage with ease with your direct team members, cross-functional stakeholders as well as with execs.
Compensation
At Atlassian, we strive to design equitable, explainable, and competitive compensation programs. To support this goal, the baseline of our range is higher than that of the typical market range, but in turn we expect to hire most candidates near this baseline. Base pay within the range is ultimately determined by a candidate's skills, expertise, or experience. In the United States, we have three geographic pay zones. For this role, our current base pay ranges for new hires in each zone are:
Zone A: $190,400 - $253,800
Zone B: $171,400 - $228,500
Zone C: $158,000 - $210,700
This role may also be eligible for benefits, bonuses, commissions, and equity.
