We are currently looking for a Principal Program Engineer II to join our Engineering & Technology Innovation team in Richmond, VA. This team is part of our new Consumer Experience Organization (CXO) which centralizes and coordinates enterprise consumer strategy, marketing, and innovative nicotine products strategy, commercialization and engineering. This role will lead teams of capable and dedicated engineers as we work to meet our vison to transition adult smokers to a smoke-free future.
What you will be doing:
- As a working manager, developing a firm understanding of the details of the work and translating that into strategic planning
- Leading a team of engineers to deliver novel technology solutions (equipment and systems) for new and innovative products where little or no precedent exists
- Making resource allocation prioritization decisions in alignment with the Innovative System
- Leading and developing technical talent in both technical and non-technical capability
- Supporting the team in providing tools and resources for them to be successful
- Proactively engaging and developing strong relationships with key partners, and using those relationships to understand what is needed now and in the future
- Operating within and influencing where needed the Altria Innovation System infrastructure
We want you to have:
- 10+ years of engineering or technical experience.
- BS Degree in an engineering subject area is strongly preferred but not required if equivalent experience can be demonstrated
- Demonstrated experience and capability in technical engineering roles.
- Proven experience in people leadership and development, with a preference for technical talent
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, across multiple levels of the organization
- Experience in project and/or program management, particularly in areas where the outcomes are unknown
- Capability in data driven and risk-based decision making
- Experience with developing strong relationships with business partners
- Experience with equipment or technology development, including process startup and transfer, is preferred
- Passion for learning and exploration of new ideas
- Experience providing leadership in the areas outside of your specific area of expertise and experience
