Principal Project Manager, Group Lead
Job Description
MITRE's People, Brand and Communication (PB&C) Sector is looking for a dedicated individual to join their Project Management Office (PMO) as the PMO Group Lead (Manager). The PMO Group Lead will manage the PB&C Sector Project Management team using program and project management and leadership skills to plan, integrate, and execute projects across both the Sector and the organization.
A successful PMO Group Lead will demonstrate strong leadership and communication skills, be well organized, exhibit attention to detail, and work with agility and collaboration in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
In this position, you will report to the Senior Advisor - Sector for People, Brand, and Communications, and partner closely with HR subject matter experts (SMEs), Organization Effectiveness consultants (OECs), the Sector's Centers of Excellence (COEs), and our business line colleagues.
Job Responsibilities:
As a key member and Group Lead of the PB&C PMO, you will:
- Leverage expertise in people, project, and program management, business analysis, governance, process improvement, change management, and other areas to successfully plan, monitor, and manage projects from initiation through completion.
- Develop detailed project plans, comprehensive project documentation, and measure project performance using appropriate systems, tools, and techniques to ensure projects are executed with optimal efficiency and maintain alignment with strategic direction.
- Utilize strong leadership and communication skills to direct and guide project teams' work and strategies - selecting the optimal tactics to drive critical project components forward, effectively communicating as appropriate to all stakeholders.
- Collaborate effectively across stakeholders and functional project owners to ensure the PB&C PMO team is sharing and building its knowledge, experience, and methodologies.
- Lead, develop, coach, and manage the PMO team, ensuring professional growth and career opportunities are equitably available while fostering an inclusive team dynamic and work environment that is aligned and models the organization's culture, ethics, and behaviors.
Additionally, as the PMO Group Leader you will:
- Synthesize, manage, and monitor the day-to-day activities of the PMO across all teams and projects and drive execution and outcomes.
- Provide direction, training, and guidance on PMO tools and processes.
- Manage the project management team and collaborate with other department leaders to develop effective projects and programs.
- Assign project managers to various projects and prioritize assigned work.
- Manage the development of the PMO projects and ensure that team members are executing their tasks efficiently and on time.
- Identify areas of opportunity and develop new approaches or improvements to existing PMO processes.
- Continuously evaluate projects to ensure they are meeting deadlines and goals.
Required Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's degree in Business, Administration, or a related field.
- A minimum of five years' experience in a project management role
- A minimum of three years' experience in a supervisory position
- Demonstrated proficiency using the Microsoft Project tool to organize projects.
- Strong leadership skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to details and technicalities.
- Strong facilitation, collaboration, and presentation skills.
- Demonstrated comfort with ambiguity and organizational change.
- Ability to understand, balance, and articulate both strategic and tactical planning.
- Strong quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Persistent, tactful, and persuasive team and project leadership, including conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
- Excellent ability to organize and prioritize across multiple projects and handle diverse assignments simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification
