Job Summary
The Principal Reliability Engineer will lead and contribute to the reliability efforts of ZOLL's next -generation products in development. Currently, this is a wearable cardioverter defibrillator. Components of this system include the following: wearable computer (patient monitor), monitoring and treatment vest, Li-ion battery, and battery charger.
Essential Functions
- Provide guidance, planning, and individual contribution for both reliability analysis and testing of medical products
- Author and lead implementation of reliability-related analysis and test plans including:
*Reliability Plan
*Highly Accelerated Lifecycle Testing (HALT) Plan
*Environmental Stress Screening (ESS) Plan
*Reliability Demonstration Test (RDT) Plan
*Technical project management of other subcontractors performing reliability work
- Collaborate and contribute on the development of the Serviceability Plan.
- Collaborate with internal customers including Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, Project Management, Marketing, Service, and Regulatory Affairs.
- Contribute to reliability requirements development and traceability.
- Participate in design reviews
- Provide reports as needed
- Assist with Hazard & Risk Analysis/FMECAs as needed
- Provides mentoring for department staff.
Required/Preferred Education and Experience
- BS degree in an Engineering discipline required
- MS degree in an Engineering discipline preferred
- Typically, 15-25 years of relevant experience.
Experience with medical devices required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Proven track record performing the above Duties and Responsibilities.
- Deep understanding of reliability theory and methods
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents of advanced technical complexity. Ability to write reports and research findings of a technical nature. Ability to speak and present effectively one-on-one as well as in small and large groups of professionals including customers, clients and collaborators, both inside and outside the organization.
- Mathematical Skills: Basic mathematical skills required, including the understanding and ability to apply basic statistical and arithmetic principles, work with tabular data, and create and interpret graphs.
- Reasoning Ability: Advanced reasoning skills required. Must have the ability to solve complex problems and weigh possible solutions to determine rank options to deliver optimal outcomes. Ability to assess problems involving several variables in changing situations.
- Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

Working Conditions
- This position is generally performed in a typical office environment that is usually quiet. Employee is expected to work collaboratively with team members, as well as able to work independently with limited supervision. Work will require significant computer and telephone work.
