About the Position
This is an exceptional opportunity to bring and implement your vision for establishing diverse Mass spectrometry (MS) technologies at our Watertown site in support of Treeline’s lead discovery efforts. Besides determining protein dynamics and interactions by Hydrogen Deuterium Exchange MS (HDX-MS), you will leverage native, intact and peptide mapping MS. Further, you will have the opportunity to get involved in covalent library screening and work closely with our lead discovery, computational and chemistry teams to integrate your data into drug discovery. You will be the MS expert in Watertown and complement your expertise with our San Diego based MS team focusing on Proteomics, Metabolomics and ASMS.

You have an eagerness to take on responsibilities outside of traditional Mass Spectrometry (MS) support and push the limits on how MS is used for small molecule drug discovery. You can effectively communicate complexities of data to your peers in lead discovery but also digest data effectively to broader audiences.

Responsibilities

• Establish Hydrogen Deuterium Exchange Mass Spectrometry (HDX-MS) for studying protein dynamics and protein-protein interactions in support of hit-finding and validation.
• Provide intact, native and peptide mapping support for project teams.
• Develop strategies for covalent compound screening and cryptic pocket identification.
• Employ MS methods enabling mechanistic studies to determine the mode-of-inhibition for promising hits.
• Collaborate with structural biology, medicine design, biology, and chemistry to develop hit-finding strategies and support SAR to rapidly drive lead discovery.
• Work with external vendors and in sync with Treeline’s MS team in San Diego to support projects with a wide variety of MS capabilities.

Required Qualifications

• PhD and postdoctoral training in Mass Spectrometry, Biophysics, Biochemistry or related discipline.
• 5+ years of experience in biotech/pharma industry with a track record of MS support for hit-finding, hit-to-lead, and lead optimization to delivering small molecule development candidates. In the absence of 5+ years in industry experience, demonstration of small molecule characterization in an academic setting.
• Technical knowledge and theoretical understanding of a wide variety of MS approaches, including HDX-MS, intact MS, peptide mapping MS, native MS, covalent MS, XL-MS and ASMS. HDX-MS expertise is required.
• Experience to work with multi-disciplinary teams to discuss MS data implications for protein dynamics, protein-protein interactions and structural understanding.
• Direct experience in working with and characterizing challenging proteins.
• Experience in establishing and managing CRO activities.
• Strong written and oral communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, with demonstrated ability to work collaboratively on multidisciplinary teams.
• Ability to plan and execute novel strategies.
