TITLE: Principal Scientist I

LOCATION: 601 E. Jackson Street, Richmond, VA 23219

DUTIES: Identify and prioritize opportunities for process improvements and standardization by leading various projects and collaborate with end users, vendors and cross-functional stakeholders to identify specific automation needs, making recommendations and implementing proposed solutions. Draft guidelines and training documents to ensure proper implementation of processes and proposed solutions. Serve as a key resource in the management of the processes, systems, and data to support product development and the Pre-Market Tobacco Application (PMTA) submission process. Prepare and deliver insights to all levels of management. Serve as a liaison between Clinical/Biological Activity testing teams and external vendors to identify the third-party analytical facilities/vendors and evaluate their capabilities and performances. Verify validation of analytical methodologies used by third-party vendors to ensure the methods are fit-for- purpose for quantitative analysis of compounds (biomarkers and harmful or potentially harmful constituents (HPHCs)) in target matrices (biological fluids, tobacco and related products, aerosol and smoke etc.)

REQUIREMENTS: Requires, at minimum, a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or closely related field, or foreign equivalent. Must have at least eight (8) years' experience in the job offered or related. Experience must include the following: Experience operating testing equipment used in an organic chemical analytical lab; Hands-on method development and method validation experience; Experience working with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS); Experience with pre-clinical study designs and concepts; Advocating and implementing efficiency improvements in an analytical setting ;Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs) and Good Clinical Practices (GCPs) experience.
