Principal Software Engineer

We are looking for a passionate professional to join Illumina to for clinical software development. The position is based in San Diego, California. You will work with a large group of highly motivated scientists and engineers to deliver clinical software solutions for NGS and microarray.

Requirements:

15+ years in engineering/product development in the life science industry including 10+ years of management experience, bachelor+ education in engineering disciplines.

Demonstrated understanding of SDLC and agile development

Experience testing and release both locally deployed and cloud-based software

Demonstrated experience building software for NGS

Expertise in web technologies, Java based tech stack, AWS

Strong experience and history of working as a full-stack developer

Excellent architectural understanding and design ability

Comfortability with bioinformatics integration

A can-do attitude, as well as a desire to drive continuous innovation and improvement

A strong desire to build scalable software products

Excellent communication skills and proven ability to articulate and communicate complex software concepts

Deep understanding of SOA, web security architecture, REST APIs, event-driven architecture, and other architectural patterns

Expertise in .NET and C# and/or J2EE/Spring and Java

Experience with web application technologies - HTML/CSS/JavaScript

Strong object oriented programming

Strong background in Software as a Service, familiarity with AWS

Database experience (SQL and no-SQL)Good understanding of building architecture for scalability

Knowledge of Agile development methodologies

Demonstrated success leading software development projects and delivering high-quality software products using established development methodologies against formal schedules

Responsibilities:

Lead design reviews

Implement critical components and POC

Develop and maintain high level software architecture for a cloud platform

Create and communicate software architecture roadmap

Work with software application teams to ensure alignment of architecture to user requirements

Ensure adherence of development efforts to the software architecture

Maintain awareness of industry trends and evaluate applicability of new software

The estimated base salary range for the Principal Software Engineer role based in the United States of America is: $197,200 - $295,800. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable salary range may be updated accordingly. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual's qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
