HR Platform engineering's mission is to empower our product engineering teams to unleash the potential of Paylocity's product suite including products like Recruiting, Onboarding, Payroll, Global Search, and Benefits. We are looking for a highly experienced, hands-on technical leader that will guide our team on building platform level components that scale with our business. This is a unique opportunity for an engineering leader who would like to build solutions that will save our users hours of time and effort, and employee collaboration capabilities that engage our client's workforce.
The Principal Engineer - HR Platform will craft solution architecture & design resulting in a discoverable library of platform components that can be utilized to create delightful experiences for our users. Today we have a technology stack that includes a mix of products and platforms, as we scale it is imperative that we build out application platform components so that our product engineering teams can build experiences with speed, quality, scalability, and efficiency. You will help transform Workflows, Document Library, People and Surveys to modern, scalable and reliable Platforms.

Reports to: Director Engineering - HR Platforms
Responsibilities:
As we move toward a cloud-based future, you will:

• Be the HR Platform Engineering team's technical thought leader to modernize Workflows, People, Document Library and Surveys Platforms.
• Partner with Product Engineering to understand needs and translate into scalable technically resilient solutions that match the need of the situation (short and long term).
• Demonstrated ability of balancing speed to market & long-term scalability.
• Understand the current technical product landscape - architecture, bottlenecks, points of failure, traffic patterns, room for optimization in business logic implementations.
• Solve highly technical, complex problems for Platforms from inception of ideas to launch.
• Plan and drive the decomposition of large, monolithic product architectures into reusable, platform-based distributed systems that scale exponentially.
• Define architectures, contribute to roadmap, and identify strategic engineering efficiency patterns to continuously support rapid customer growth.
• Define foundational standards, provide guidance for Engineering Excellence, and mentor your peers and juniors.
• Engage with critical product and infrastructure issues to drive improvement in our customer experience.
• Demonstrate continuous learning to raise the bar for yourselves, your team, and the systems you will own.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a similar technical field.
• Fluency in C#, Java, or a similar modern, object-oriented programming language.
• Domain expertise in developing with AWS systems and capabilities.
• Experience of successfully leading, architecting, launching production environments for large, enterprise systems in the cloud.
• Experience with managing a large-scale SaaS production environment for availability, reliability, and resiliency.
• Solid understanding of modern REST API standards and concepts.
• Hands-on experience using data-stores (relational or non-relational) at scale.
• Experience with designing highly available distributed systems that operate at scale.
• Fluent written and verbal communication skills that enable collaboration with technical or business-centric peers.
• Familiarity with agile software development methodologies.
• Experience with product migration from datacenter to cloud.

This role can be performed from any office in the US. The pay range for this position is $118 - $218/yr; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This position is eligible for an annual restricted stock unit grant based on individual performance in addition to a full range of benefits outlined here. This information is provided per the relevant state and local pay transparency laws for the location in which this position will be performed. Base pay information is based on market location.
