Principal Software Engineer (m/w/d)

WaveLight GmbH is a global leader in developing and producing innovative laser systems for use in eye surgery, as well as surgical planning and image guidance for cataract surgeries. Since 2009, WaveLight has been a wholly-owned subsidiary of Alcon, enabling gentle and highly precise correction of vision impairment.

We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual for the position of Principal Software Engineer (m/w/d) to lead the technical aspects of software engineering projects for our surgical vision care products in Erlangen.

 In this role, a typical day will include:

• Drive software architectures and requirements to meet technological, regulatory, life cycle, and organizational needs actively
• Provide guidance and manage activities of both external and internal software development teams and test engineers
• Define, coordinate, and participate hands-on in software proof of concepts
• Participate in software design and verification of software functionality
• Support and promote the adoption of CI/CD practices for build, testing, documentation, and report generation throughout development teams

 WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO ALCON:

• Over 7 years of software development experience, including 2+ years in technical leadership roles
• Proven track record in developing C++ desktop client/client-server applications and UI application development
• Experience working with multi-location, distributed teams and providing architectural guidance for desktop and server software
• Proficiency in Agile/Scrum methodologies, including feature-driven development and Azure DevOps, as well as cloud technologies
• Fluent in English with intermediate level German proficiency
