Your Role at Baxter

Baxter seeks a Principal Software Engineer to join our Care Solution business. Baxter produces medical solutions to empower clinical communication and collaboration and promote patient safety and satisfaction in the acute care hospital environment.

This role requires a diversified knowledge of engineering principles and the ability to make technical decisions independently. A full understanding of the software development life cycle is required, including requirement gathering, design, development, testing, and documentation of specifications.

What you will be doing:

• Model, design, and build secure and reliable backend systems maximizing speed and scale.
• Work requires analysis and/or application of technical principles to develop new design or processes or improve upon existing designs or processes
• Work together with the development team to develop quality, testable applications based on product and regulatory requirements.
• Execute projects with minimal mentorship.
• Deliver high quality and timely results to meet the business needs.
• Contribute to a collaborative environment, helping to establish lean but effective software practices.
• Designs and/or coordinates research and tests to validate effect and consequences across functions
• Design and coding practices consistent with security and regulatory standards.
• Design interfaces to integrate with legacy application systems and infrastructure

What you will bring:

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Computer Science in appropriate technical discipline or local equivalent of same
• 4+ years experience in an engineering or technical role
• Must have experience in commercial software development
• Experience developing with back-end programming languages such as C#, Javascript, Python, etc. Nice to have C++ experience

Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge of document-based (e.g. Mongo) and relational (e.g. SQL Server) databases
• Experience using HTTP, JSON and RESTFul Application Programming Interfaces (APIs)
• Knowledge of web development technologies such as Angular, JavaScript, HTML, SSL, SignalR, CSS3
• Experienced in maintaining the life cycle of high-scale public and internal APIs, including design, implementation, and depreciation
• Understanding of computer networking principles
• Experience working with containers and container orchestration technologies
• Good coding skills and experienced in implementing high-scale cloud architectures using modern, cloud-based container platforms (PaaS/SaaS)
• Proficient working in a Linux environment
• Unit/integration testing experience. Experienced with various testing strategies of distributed systems
• Must have ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written form
• Ability to work in a team environment using Agile methods to work together to accomplish shared goals

We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career. At Baxter, we are committed to equitable pay for all our employees, and we strive to be more transparent with our pay practices. To that end, this position has a base salary range of $68,000 to $156,000 plus an annual incentive bonus. The above range represents the expected base salary range for this position. The actual salary may vary based upon several factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills/experience, time in the role, business line, and geographic/office location.
