General Summary:
Unum is seeking a Principal Software Engineer/Solution Architect to join our Data Engineering team to play a leading role in the design, development and delivery of a new Snowflake based data warehouse and analytics capability. The successful candidate will oversee solution design and contribute meaningfully to Enterprise data model & semantic layer definitions, data acquisition and transformation pipelines and ensure data availability to enable analytics teams across the enterprise. The ideal candidate will be passionate about all things data, as we seek a creative and analytical thinker to help us solve our most challenging problems. The candidate will collaborate closely with business area SME's, technical leads and analysts on large-scale projects and ensure they are delivered to satisfactory completion. This position will provide compensation between 103,600.00 - 202,100.00 total Base Pay with a 15% annual PBI.
Job Specifications
- Bachelors of Computer Science is preferred, or equivalent relevant business experience.
- 8+ years experience with hands on development and design in data warehouse & analytics domains
- 2+ years development experience with the Snowflake DW platform
- Mastery of Data Modeling design principles & tooling
- Mastery of Data Architecture and analytics principles and best practices.
- Strong foundational knowledge of database technology (Teradata, Snowflake, MySQL, SQL Server, DB2, etc.) and NoSQL stores (MongoDB, Elasticsearch, etc.).
- Adept in extracting and leveraging data out of data warehouse, transactional databases, object stores & API based environments
- Demonstrated ability to translate business needs into sound technical solutions
- Strong communications skills with the ability to influence those in senior positions using data and logic
- Has strong track record in taking ownership for the design & implementation of technical solutions
- Strong team player; able to work effectively within a team and more broadly with people from a variety of backgrounds and areas across the organization.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Primary architect focused on design, modeling and implementation in a Data Lake, Data Warehouse and Data Mart ecosystem
- Oversee complete solution design from ingestion at source to consumption by business users
- Will contribute meaningfully to our reference architecture and ensure adherence to its application during solution design
- Ensures designs conform to performance, traceability, scalability requirements and comply with standards and best practices
- Responsible for solution quality from design and implementation into deploy and run.
- Collaborates with Business Analysts and stakeholders to translate business requirements into a robust technical design
- Will oversee project implementation and ensure technical leads are properly supported with architectural guidance.
- Collaborates with other Principal SE and architects on standards, processes, tooling and frameworks required for project delivery
- Participate in Proof Of Concept(POC) work and prototyping when necessary.
- Develops influential relationships with internal stakeholders and leadership.

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.
$103,600.00-$202,100.00
