Job Description
SUMMARY
The Principal for the Investor Strategy & Solutions team will be based in New York and will be responsible for supporting the growth of Investment Management for Ares Strategic Partnerships. Key responsibilities include portfolio construction, investment analysis and risk management for custom LP mandates comprised of Ares commingled funds and co-investments. This role supports key strategic priorities and provides a high degree of visibility to executive level senior management as well as some of the largest global institutional investors.
The Strategic Partnerships team works to deepen Ares' relationships with select LPs, which includes relationship development as well as investment and portfolio management for investors. Strategic Partnerships works closely with business stakeholders across the platform including Ares' five business lines as well as operational teams (e.g., Legal, Compliance, Tax, Quantitative Research Group, etc.).

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
Reports to: Partner, Head of Investor Strategy & Solutions
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Innovate and further enhance investment management capabilities to deepen our ability to meet the needs of our clients
- Responsible for enhancing portfolio risk management processes, portfolio construction, monitoring exposures and mitigating portfolio risk
- Contribute to the design, development, and evaluation of proprietary frameworks and tools used in the assessment of private market investment opportunities
- Develop custom risk and performance analytics for private markets portfolios
- Obtain expert knowledge of Ares platform, investment strategies and client profiles
- Collaborate with other quantitative professionals on cross-platform initiatives to help service existing and potential strategic partners
- Design custom portfolio review reports for Ares Strategic Partnerships
- Complete investment-related client requests in a timely manner
- Support fundraising activities through direct client engagement
- Liaise with groups across the firm including Investment Teams, Investment Committee, Investor Relations, Relationship Managers, Performance & Attribution, and Quantitative Research.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- Bachelor's degree required with major in Finance or Economics preferred, with an outstanding academic record
Experience Required:
- 10-15 years' professional experience in an alternative investment management, portfolio solutions or risk management experience. Must have a blend of client service, investment capabilities and commercial sense
- Prior experience in asset management industry preferred
General Requirements:
- Background in alternative investments, portfolio management, quantitative finance, statistics, or related fields
- Strong financial modeling, written and verbal communication, and presentation skills
- Advanced analytical and problem solving skills
- CFA, CAIA and/or FRM designations preferred
- Expert Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills
- Prior experience with programming languages, such as Python a plus but not required
- Highly motivated self-starter with a strong work ethic
- Outgoing and collaborative with a well-developed ability to work effectively independently as well as in a team-oriented environment
Reporting Relationships
Compensation
The anticipated base salary range for this position is listed below. Total compensation may also include a discretionary performance-based bonus. Note, the range takes into account a broad spectrum of qualifications, including, but not limited to, years of relevant work experience, education, and other relevant qualifications specific to the role.
$210,000-$250,000
