PRIMARY FUNCTION
The Principal System Engineer provides leadership and mentoring to a multi-discipline/multi-product engineering team and will be responsible for leading the development of moderate to high complex system level requirements, designs, verification plans and T&E criteria / plans for assigned programs. This will involve working cross-functionally with engineering, program management, operations and other functional groups throughout all phases of projects. This individual will be the systems engineering focal for the entire life cycle of the project/program as assigned by the business.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Manage engineering budgets, indirect cost management, and take part in budget planning and forecasting, including scheduling, man-power allocation, budgets and estimates to complete programs by deadline.
- Recommend new approaches and techniques to achieve continuous improvement in systems development processes.
- Assist in the identification and removal of barriers to successful project completion.
- Generate T&E engineering estimates on complex system designs.
- Lead direct technical interface with multiple customers.
- Overall responsibility for supervision of all test activities and ensuring all technical products (test data, questionnaires, draft test reports, Test Incident Reports (TIR), test reports, test outlines, test plans, cost estimates, Standing Operation Procedures (SOPs) are of high quality, accurate, and meet timeliness requirements.
- Create safety documents (Functional Hazard Analysis, System Safety Assessment, and System Safety Hazard Analysis).
- Liaise with program leaders and customers to understand their requirements, propose engineering alternatives, and resolve any product related issues.
- Establish, conduct and maintain internal design reviews and guidelines for product development and engineering designs. Identify engineering risks and oversee/monitor the associated mitigations.
- Capture and manage requirements, analyze, document, and conduct verification/validation testing and evaluation for systems, products, or sub-systems of moderate to high complexity and contribute to system integration.
- Acts as a mentor to more junior engineers in all areas including project planning and execution.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
- Proven experience building, managing and developing effective and innovative technical teams.
- Demonstrated experience taking a product from development through verification to production.
- Effective collaboration skills and strategy development with peers and senior leaders.
- Highly proficient in Digital Engineering practices and principles.
- Expertly develop new and review existing 3d Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) models utilizing industry standard tools such as Cameo to ensure digitally traceable interrelationships between data and information grounded in an Authoritative Source of Truth (ASoT) concept.
- Highly experienced in performing reliability engineering functions such as creating Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (FMEA), conducting Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) analyses, performing Accelerated Life Testing (ALT) analysis, identifying / mitigating obsolescence issues, and creating Diminishing Manufacturing Sources and Material Shortages (DMSMS) plans.
- Authority in the use of standards such as MIL-HDBK-516C Airworthiness Certification Criteria, ADS-51- HDBK Rotorcraft and Aircraft Qualification Handbook, and MIL-STD-882 System Safety.
- Experienced in all aspects of MIL-STD-810: Environmental Test Methods and Engineering Guidelines, MIL-STD-464: Electromagnetic Environmental Effects Requirements for Systems, and MIL-STD-461: Requirements for the Control of Electromagnetic Interference Characteristics of Subsystems and Equipment, as well as civil standards such as ARP-4754A and ARP-4761.
- In depth experience with industry standard tools such as Cameo, Catia, DOORS, Jama, Subversion, SOLIDWORKS PDM, and Microsoft Office Suite.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, Computer or Systems Engineering from an accredited institution and a minimum of 14 years of applicable experience required. A Master's degree in Engineering is preferred.
- This position requires a strong attention to detail and follow through, use of independent judgment, and excellent communication and people management skills.
- Previous experience with military or civil fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft.
- Ability to travel up to 20%.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Government Secret Security Clearance.
- Ability to pass a drug and background screening.
