Principal Systems Electrical Engineer

Owl Labs is hiring a Principal Systems Electrical Engineer to join our cross-functional team comprising of Optics, Mechanical, Electrical, and Thermal Engineering. This is a hands-on role where ideal candidate has core competencies and subject matter expertise in various aspects of computer systems and product design, and has successfully influenced decision-makers, product features and the customer experience.

• Collaborate with the cross-functional team to define and own electrical system architecture.
• Analyze key system trade-offs and proposing solutions including but not limited to, design of high performance / low power / high-quality products, guiding electrical and mechanical components and feature integration feasibility.
• Design custom PCBA for which responsibilities include, electrical schematics, PCB layout, power budgeting and navigating thermal, signal / power integrity, EMC, and RF challenges.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to develop system validation and reliability test plans which includes testing of, Thermal, Wireless, Acoustic, Signal Integrity, Power Integrity, and Stress testing.
• Collaborate with design, test, and manufacturing engineers to define design and/or process improvements to address reliability issues based on understanding of root causes
• Define product test methodology and test coverage to assure product reliability to de-risk designs from prototype to production
• Responsible for board bring-up; defining bring-up plan and execution
• Responsible for defining manufacturing test plan at board and system level. Work closely with 3rd party test fixture vendors to define, develop and validate test fixtures for manufacturing tests.

• BS EE w/ 10+ years or MS EE w/ 8+ years overall experience
• Experience with high-speed digital design, defining layout rules of modern interfaces, fundamentals of signal and power integrity, understanding of low voltage power regulation solutions, and hardware integration into multi-functional systems
• Hands-on with electrical schematic capture and layout, hardware bring-up and debugging, functional verification, and manufacturing support
• Experience with Altium 365 (Electrical schematic capture, layout and library management)
• Ability to navigate audio / video interfaces and devices including microphones, speakers, low-speed peripherals, complex SoCs and CMOS imaging sensors
• Must have created and influenced system specification documents for electrical, power delivery, thermal and physical fit requirements
• Ability to navigate compliance requirements including EMC, Safety and Environmental engineering
• Familiarity with Electrical & Mechanical Stress Testing, Environmental Stress Testing, Fatigue Testing, Vibration and Shock Testing and common manufacturing techniques / technologies
• Familiarity with the challenges of taking a product from design through to production
• Experience working in a fast-paced engineering environment utilizing real time crisis management skills
• Strong analytical skills using data-driven decisions, back up assumptions, and develop scale of expectations.
• Strong cross-functional collaboration, written and verbal communication, and presentation communication skills
• Ability to travel domestically and internationally if needed

Owl Labs is a hybrid company, we are over 40% remote, and our headquarters is based in Boston, MA.. This role is an on-site position; remote option will be considered if the candidate is available for frequent travel to the engineering lab facilities at the headquarters.
