The Principal Systems Engineer uses state-of-the-art techniques to inspire success in cross-functional teams working collaboratively to achieve Infusion System device designs that meet customer needs. You will guide our technical team in resolving difficult problems in a collaborative environment.

Location | This role will preferably be based near Medina, NY or Round Lake, IL reporting to the office one-time per week.

Your Team

Software is recognized as a programming expert and platform SME, who leads complex software platform by identifying, solving programming and design issues during development, implementation and sustaining product phases. Understands the software development life cycle and agile methodologies and takes ownership of software platform deliverables including software design, code and test. You collaborate with cross functional team of stakeholder's system, clinical, Human Factors, UI/UX to drive decisions. This leader will be key contributor in aiding to the Baxter culture levers of Speed, Collaboration, Courage and Simplicity.

You and your colleagues have a solid understanding of standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria as part of the software development lifecycle (SDLC) toward the development of new or enhanced software products or processes. Together, you plan, execute and functionally direct important engineering assignments, which require independent judgment.

What you'll be doing

• Perform standard software development assignments (software requirements specification, design, develop code, unit testing, etc.), adhering to defined methods, techniques, theories, corporate and division Standard Operating Policies.
• Demonstrate standard systems engineering techniques (requirements development and cascade, verification and validation strategy, risk management, configuration management, interoperability).
• Provide technical input and scheduling information to cross functional teams.
• Select sound techniques to solve problems and make design recommendations under direction of supervisor.
• Independently plans, schedules and leads embedded platform team in detailed phases of software design and development.
• Make recommendations for software product and process improvements based on technical knowledge.
• Responsible for the design, documentation, implementation, and support for embedded software including RTOS, Use Interface, I/O, and controls; test equipment, emulators/simulators software; and network device and communication software.
• Recognized as a technical expert in embedded software-hardware interface designs, features, and external interfaces.

What you'll bring

• B.S. in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering or related field.
• 5+ years of related experience.
• A solid technical understanding of the principles and procedures of software engineering (e.g., SDLC, IEC 62304, Agile) and systems engineering (requirements cascade, risk management, configuration management).
• Experience with Embedded C and RTOS. Experience with Linux, including C++, GUI development, Object Oriented Analysis, MVC design pattern, Multi-threaded OS, Gerrit and GIT preferable.
• Experience designing for safety critical environment and following formal design and development processes (e.g., software development environments, configuration management tools, code inspection techniques and tools, testing methods and test management tools).
• Ability to discuss normally encountered technical or project management issues, both verbally and in written form, to non-technical recipients.
• Extensive cross-functional team experience, including technical and non-technical work.

At Baxter, we are committed to equitable pay for all employees, and we strive to be more transparent with our pay practices. The estimated base salary for this position is $68,000 to $156,000 annually. The estimated range is meant to reflect an anticipated salary range for the position. We may pay more or less than of the anticipated range based upon market data and other factors, all of which are subject to change. Individual pay is based on upon location, skills and expertise, experience, and other relevant factors. This position may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
