ABOUT THE POSITION
The Columbia Sportswear User Experience team is empowered to deliver delightful digital shopping experiences to Columbia and its partner brand digital channels. We do this by employing empathy, data driven insights and deep knowledge of the modern consumer's needs. In service of Columbia's core mission of bringing the outdoors to everyone, the User Experience team ensures that the digital touchpoint meets and exceeds the expectations of the modern shopper.
As Principal UX Designer (Design System) , you are responsible for driving the product lifecycle of the Columbia Sportswear Enterprise Design System from planning and road mapping through design, delivery, and adoption.
You are responsible for bringing all the critical pieces together - strategy, business goals, design, technology, and customer needs - to enable cohesive and consistent experiences across all our enterprise content management products, solutions, and platforms.
HOW YOU'LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE
- Consult with leaders across engineering, UX, and product to deeply understand their problem spaces and inform opportunities for advancing the design system.
- Create and maintain a design system roadmap which addresses the needs of the product organization, and ensures key features are planned and delivered on time with high quality.
- Ensure organizational readiness, keep design, development, and product teams up to date with the latest Columbia Sportswear Design System vision and roadmap.
- Work closely with dedicated UX design and frontend development teams to guide execution of work according to roadmap and requirements.
- Oversee communications and documentation for the system, including release notes and blog posts.
- Collect feedback from product designers, product teams, and user research team to inform and improve the system.
- Establish and maintain Columbia Sportswear Design System success metrics which align with business goals and customer outcomes.
- Establish design measurement standards to ensure compliance with accessibility and design principles; collaborate with key stakeholders to incorporate these measurements into product artifacts (e.g., acceptance criteria, definition of done, experience strategy briefs) and approval processes.
YOU ARE
- Able to actively participate in and lead team collaboration regarding projects and initiatives to ensure consistency, clarity, and alignment of expectations and communication.
- Someone who feels comfortable participating in design review sessions providing constructive feedback and mentorship on deliverables to ensure successful outcomes.
- Known for strong verbal and written communication skills with all levels of business leaders; ability to influence and cultivate strong relationships with key business stakeholders in the organization.
- Someone with excellent time management and prioritization skills; ability to work on and manage multiple projects simultaneously, at various stages of their development.
- Someone with a demonstrated history of solving user needs.
YOU HAVE
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience with 10+ years of UX/UI design experience.
- 6+ years of UX/UI experience managing design system feature definition and road mapping.
- 5+ years of Figma experience with deep knowledge of using it for collaboration with developers.
- Deep experience working with creative/design teams and understanding how to integrate creative minds into repeatable processes.
- Strong experience with Agile development methodologies and related software and tools to keep organized.
- Thorough understanding of ADA / WCAG 508 compliance standards and e xperience bringing order to complex systems, scoping and prioritizing projects, identifying risks and dependencies, defining schedules, and working across multiple teams.
