We are witnessing a massive shift of consumer presence from offline to online. With this, there is a need for technologies that enable online businesses to thrive. We’re looking for a Privacy Counsel or Senior Privacy Counsel to join Bolt’s Legal team. This new position reports to our Associate General Counsel, Products, Privacy, Compliance, and IP and can be based out of any of our US offices or remotely within the US. In this role, the Counsel will lead a variety of privacy legal initiatives across the US, Canada, and Europe/UK, and also provide general product counseling, and regulatory compliance guidance. This position is high-priority and we’re looking for someone to join us immediately.

What you will be doing
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for Bolt business and technical teams on data privacy and security matters, including compliance with the CCPA/CPRA (and other state privacy laws), and evaluating international market requirements and advising on market expansion opportunities. 
  • Advise Product and Engineering teams on new product features and functionality to ensure compliance with applicable privacy laws and regulations.
  • Create and maintain key legal and compliance infrastructure such as trainings, playbooks, and policies, and administer Bolt compliance and data privacy programs.     
  • Draft clear and effective terms of service and privacy policies for Bolt products and services.
What would set you up for success
  • 5+ years of relevant experience including at least 2 years at a high-growth private company. 
  • Substantial experience with privacy program design and management, and product counseling. 
  • Prior experience and interest in fintech, payments, checkout, digital commerce, and/or crypto.  
  • Exceptional attention to detail, professional integrity, ability to meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects. 
  • Ability to work cross-functionally, and play well with non-lawyers. 
  • Trustworthy and experienced in handling highly sensitive and confidential information with discretion. 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with executive stakeholders and the broader team. 
  • High tolerance for ambiguity and comfort working independently and proposing and defending solutions.
  • Willingness to dive in and get your hands dirty to get a job done.
  • J.D. degree from an accredited institution and active membership in at least one state bar or the District of Columbia.  
  • CIPP/US certification preferred. 

Expected Outcomes In 6 Months

  • Build processes and systems to achieve compliance with the CPRA and other state privacy laws, professionalize existing CCPA and GDPR programs, and improve general compliance. 
  • Help create and support the automation of Bolt’s privacy program. 

Benefits

  • The US base salary range for this full-time position is $191,000 - $236,000 plus benefits. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for this position across all US locations.
