About This Job

The successful candidate will administer closely held and other privately held investment interests owed by fiduciary accounts where Commerce Trust serves as agent, personal representative, or trustee. This includes obtaining and analyzing appropriate documentation, making sell or hold recommendations, preparing pre-acceptance and annual asset reviews, servicing income collection, and guiding the sale or transfer of assets. You will be responsible for ensuring compliance with related policies and procedures along with applicable state and federal banking regulations regarding the oversight of non-exchange traded assets held in a fiduciary capacity by Commerce Trust.

Essential Functions

  • Manage, acquire and dispose of assets; analyze and recommend votes for tender offers, partnership consents, and corporate actions; and value assets
  • Work closely with internal teammates and external advisors to administer interests in accordance with client requirements, including investment goals, legal and tax aspects, while minimizing the risk to Commerce Trust
  • Complete annual financial and operating analysis of closely held businesses and formulate a recommendation
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for assigned assets
  • Work independently or partner with Private Client Advisors, Portfolio Managers, and external professionals to provide comprehensive solutions to complex customer needs throughout the Commerce Trust market area
  • Successfully address account and investment issues to ensure quality service is provided to clients and supports new business development
  • Proactively provide internal partners regular updates, including changes in ownership status, asset investment performance, and any relevant actions and events affecting the investment returns and servicing of the account
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required

  • Working knowledge of balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow analysis
  • Ability to model financial statements, analyze and interpret results, and forecast trends
  • Ability to understand and interpret business appraisals and valuations
  • Knowledge of business valuation principles for closely/privately held business interests
  • Knowledge of trust agreements, legal assignments, contracts, and leases
  • Ability to understand and interpret corporate governing documents (by-laws, shareholder agreements, partnership agreements, and operating agreements)
  • Excellent presentation skills, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Motivated and organized self-starter with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Inquisitive, agile, and strong team player with excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to remain adaptable and resilient to all situations with an optimistic outlook and cast a positive shadow that is aligned with our culture and Core Values
  • Intermediate level proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams, and Outlook

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, economics, accounting, or other quantitative field, or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Master's degree in Business preferred.
  • 1+ years of business experience working with privately held businesses, trust administration, corporate development, consulting, financial planning, or investment banking required
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Accredited in Business Valuation (ABV), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), Certified Exit Planning Advisor (CEPA), and/or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation preferred
