Job Description

We are looking for a candidate who is ready to solve hard and practical problems in the simplest way possible. As a Process Automation Engineer, you will help design and build a proof-of-concept plastic recycling process, working alongside chemical and mechanical engineers.

You will have the funding and latitude to use equipment and methods that might be unimaginable in other start-ups or labs. Time is of the essence so we are looking for someone who is excited to spend the next few years building technology that does not exist today with a real sense of urgency. In particular, the race to solve the problem of plastic waste is on and the first group to crack the problem will own a multi-billion dollar market. In that spirit you will:

• Develop an end-to-end recycling process at R&D level scale, collaborating with a team of chemical and mechanical engineers
• Work with mechanical engineers to build a controlled proof-of-concept recycling process
• Code process automation, instrumentation, and control using PLC, Process Historians, SCADA, Raspberry Pi, and other industry solutions
• Specify and implement industrial sensors for redundancy and safety to control and monitor chemical processes
• Design and execute lab experiments independently, adapting to changing project needs, as well as generating and interpreting data from these experiments in order to meet industry needs
• Effectively communicate results and implications of experiments to engineers 
• Jump in and help with whatever is needed to get the job done: machine set up, moving furniture and more - as we are a start-up, you never know!

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering or related field with a minimum of 1 year of relevant industry chemistry experience
• Experience with PLC and control systems
• Research or projects that demonstrate ability to find simple, fast ways to solve unstructured complex problems
