The Opportunity
We are offering a permanent position for a Process Engineer to join our Process Engineering team as part of our Cochlear Brisbane Operations division based in Newstead.
As part of a larger cohort of Engineering talent, the Process Engineer will work collaboratively with a diverse group of people to develop stable and reliable manufacturing processes for new and existing products, support quality, yield and efficiency initiatives or execute manufacturing network optimisation projects to expand Cochlear’s manufacturing capabilities to help our recipients Hear now. And always.
Please note: we are particularity looking for professionals who have experience in either Semiconductor Cleanroom AND/OR Surface Mount Technology
Semiconductor Cleanroom
Experience introducing Surface Mount Technology (SMT) processes (Screen Printing, SPI, Pick & Place, Reflow), experience working on semiconductor cleanroom processes such as:

Semiconductor die attachment
-
Plasma Cleaning
-
Wirebonding
-
Semiconductor encapsulation
-
Standard test steps for the above processes such as wirebond pull-testing, component shear testing etc.
Surface Mount Technology
Experience introducing Surface Mount Technology (SMT) processes (Screen Printing, SPI, Pick & Place, Reflow), experience in optimisation, work package ownership and new product introduction for SMT assembly processes such as:

Solder paste screen printing
-
Solder Paste Inspection (SPI)
-
Component Pick and Place
-
Reflow soldering
-
Automated Optical Inspection (AOI)
Responsibilities include:
-
Support Global Supply Chain and R&D project execution by developing and implementing safe, scalable, stable, and robust manufacturing processes across the manufacturing network for new and commercially already available product.

Support the introduction of new processes, equipment and materials, including equipment installation, calibration, WH&S assessments and associated technical and process documentation (e.g. Work Instructions, Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis) in accordance to Cochlear’s QMS requirements.

Support the execution and documentation of process validation builds, co-ordinate testing of characterisation, verification and validation units and compile, analyse, and report on results.

Responsible for meeting the manufacturing network optimisation strategy by relocating/duplicating processes across the manufacturing network, in line with project objectives, target and timeline within the area of expertise.

Support the development and execution of experimentation and testing to enable characterisation, optimization and troubleshooting of processes and equipment. You will be required to document results and analysis of such testing, drawing conclusions leading to effective technical resolution.

You will plan and develop engineering work packages concerned with unique problems or team challenges, which have an important impact on moderate to large programs.

Must Haves:

Tertiary qualifications in Mechanical / Electrical / Biomedical / Mechatronics Engineering or equivalent.

Shall have proven experience developing and introducing manufacturing processes.
-
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with cross functional teams to ensure project deliverables are achieved.
-
Demonstrated experience in equipment and process validation.
-
Shall have the ability to analyse test data and perform complex statistical analysis to make sound data driven decisions.
-
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel & PowerPoint
Ideal:
-
Experience in a process development role within a highly regulated industry (Medical Device and/or Electronics Manufacturing industry experience preferred).
-
Familiar with Six Sigma Lean Manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
-
Working knowledge of DFSS/DMAIC tools, KT Problem Solving & Decision Making, PDCA and DOE’s and applying these tools in the characterization, optimization and troubleshooting of process equipment and technology performance.

Experience working with statistical software (e.g. MINITAB) is desirable for this role.
