Grammarly is excited to offer a remote-first hybrid working model. Team members work primarily remotely in the United States, Canada, Ukraine, Germany, Poland, or Portugal. Certain roles have specific location requirements to facilitate collaboration at a particular Grammarly hub.
All roles have an in-person component: Conditions permitting, teams meet 2–4 weeks every quarter at one of Grammarly’s hubs in San Francisco, Kyiv, New York, Vancouver, and Berlin, or in a workspace in Kraków. This flexible approach gives team members the best of both worlds: plenty of focus time along with in-person collaboration that fosters trust and unlocks creativity.
Grammarly team members in this role must be based in the United States or Canada, and they must be able to collaborate in person 2 weeks per quarter, traveling if necessary to the hub(s) where the team is based.

To achieve our ambitious goals, we’re looking for a Product and Privacy counsel to join our Legal team to collaborate on exciting privacy and product projects. You’ll counsel novel privacy and consumer protection legal issues, help build a world-class legal infrastructure, and collaborate closely with our customers and partners. You’ll be a trusted advisor to our Engineering, Design, and Product teams to provide strategic and tactical advice regarding product and privacy laws. You’ll also work on the cutting edge of NLP processing as well as user growth, monetization, privacy compliance, and international expansion. This role will work cross-functionally with our Engineering, Product Management, Marketing, Compliance, and Communications teams.Â
Your impactAs a Product and Privacy Counsel, you will take on critical product and privacy counseling projects with accuracy and ownership at the intersection of law, business, and technology. As a member of the Grammarly Legal team, you will also help develop the team’s culture through exemplary care for others and a strong commitment to finding creative solutions to complex questions.
- Within your first 30 days, you will participate in onboarding activities and focus on understanding our product offerings. You’ll also meet with key members of our Product, Engineering, Marketing, and Communications teams. You will be involved in at least one privacy review for our upcoming features and products.
- By month three, you will lead counseling for one Grammarly product, lead our vendor privacy diligence and data mapping process, and drive privacy infrastructure initiatives in conjunction with our engineering and security teams.
- By month six, you will be collaborating with our Product and Trust teams as a critical advisor, tracking high-impact laws, guiding our individuals and enterprise teams on critical questions, and creating scalable legal processes and playbooks for an internal team.Â
- By year one, you will have developed training for the teams with which you interact and provide periodic updates to the leadership team about legal developments and what they mean for Grammarly’s product offerings.
- By year two, you will be a resident expert on global privacy and consumer protection issues.

- Is able to collaborate in person 2 weeks per quarter, traveling if necessary to the hub where the team is based.
- Has the ability to manage multiple projects, stakeholders, priorities, and deadlines.
- Can lead a deal, negotiate effectively, and has ideas about optimal negotiation.
- Is comfortable working with cross-functional teams and advising senior leaders on risk mitigation to ensure we take the optimal path.
- Communicates clearly and empathetically both face-to-face and in writing.
- Has 3+ years of experience in a demanding and time-sensitive legal role that involved advising high-growth companies on privacy and consumer protection issues. In-house and experience counseling both B2C and B2B issues is a plus.Â
- Holds a JD (required) and has been admitted to the bar, with a license to practice law in at least one US state.

Grammarly takes a market-based approach to compensation, which means base pay may vary depending on your location. Our US and Canada locations are categorized into compensation zones based on each geographic region’s cost of labor index. Base pay may vary considerably depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The expected salary ranges for this position are outlined below by compensation zone and may be modified in the future.Â
