Product Counsel, Jigsaw

Minimum qualifications:

• JD, equivalent degree, or equivalent practical experience.
• 7 years of attorney level practice experience.
• Admitted to the bar and in good standing or otherwise authorized to practice law in state of hire.

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience advising internal product managers and engineering clients.
• Ability to effectively navigate cross-functional relationships.
• Exceptional verbal, written communication, and collaboration skills.
• Flexibility, creativity, and good judgment in managing legal risks that allow teams operating in a start-up mode to quickly launch and iterate products.

Jigsaw is Google's internal business unit supporting innovation in society and politics. It is part think tank and part tech incubator, with a mission to build technology to make the world safer. Jigsaw has multiple Research and Development (R&D) and Product teams addressing a range of global security challenges, including defending against digital attacks, mitigating the rise of online hate and harassment, countering online extremism, and fighting censorship.

Responsibilities

• Advise the Jigsaw R&D, Product teams, and the Jigsaw management team, on legal and policy issues involving a wide spectrum of product areas to be launched in the US and abroad, from the initial stages of product development to launch.
• Ensure compliance with U.S. and international laws and regulations dealing with, amongst other things, intellectual property, privacy, content regulation, consumer protection, and advertising.
• Liaise effectively and collaboratively with multiple legal subject matter experts, and cross-functional teams throughout Google.
