Position Summary:

League is looking for a Product Design Director with strong design, communication and leadership skills to lead our new Market Solutions Design Team. This is a client-facing team, responsible for helping to define problems and scope solutions with our partners in healthcare and the consumers who need them. You and your team will be involved in the full life-cycle of the design of customer solutions and bring a user-focused lens to compliment the customer’s business objectives. This is initially a player/coach role. You will have 2+ direct reports and you may take on the design work required to support customer deals when needed, as the team scales.

In this role, you'll be a foundational member of the leadership team, working together with your partners in Product Development (Engineering, Data, Product, Content), Customer Strategy and Implementation, to define the strategy, operations, and communications that guide the team to build great products and address real user needs. The ideal candidate will have strong fundamentals in people management; org building; systems, interaction and visual design; experience elevating design quality and efficacy in a data-informed product culture, and a passion for equalizing access to Healthcare. The role supports a small team of distributed designers working across multiple customer solutions from discovery through delivery and subsequent evolution and iteration. 

In this role you will:
  • Partner with Product Management, Customer Strategy, and Implementation counterparts to level up our customer solution requirements gathering and design processes.
  • Build and manage a talented, diverse, inclusive team of product designers and leaders that consistently delivers on projects and is well-balanced across a range of design skill sets.
  • Use your unique perspective to shape the product roadmap, both short-term and long-term.
  • Foster strong cross-functional partnerships with a highly talented team of product managers, engineers, content designers, data scientists, and product marketers to deliver high-quality experiences for people across platforms.
  • Oversee multiple teams and scale design resources accordingly, ensuring deadlines are met, your org is effective, and team members are set up for success by setting clear and measurable goals.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to clearly and effectively communicate the creative vision, concepts, ideas, and solutions to stakeholders, internal teams, and clients.
  • Ability to work effectively in ambiguity, including synthesizing abstract ideas into concrete design implications.
  • Develop design talent and build a thriving culture where designers grow in their careers and feel a strong sense of inclusion and belonging.

Minimal Qualifications:

  • 12+ years of experience in Product Design
  • 6+ years of leadership experience with direct reports under your guidance and leadership, including hiring and developing senior managers and individual contributors
  • 6+ years of experience working collaboratively with product, engineering, design, content and user research teams
  • Senior people management, team development, recruiting and org building experience
  • Experience growing a strategic design practice within design teams
  • Visual and interaction experience in software design
  • Organizational and analytical experience
