Job Description
The Portal by New Visions, an enterprise school management application, is growing our team of passionate people on a mission to improve equitable outcomes for all students in New York City. The Portal consolidates essential student data into a modern web interface, surfacing key indicators related to student progress. School users set plans for individual student success, while network leaders use the tool to monitor and support the progress of nearly one million students throughout the City.
What you’ll do at New Visions:
- Work cross-functionally with product and engineering partners to represent the design team, facilitate design discussions, and ensure design quality.
- Collaborate closely with product managers to define features and contribute to the overall direction of your product area.
- Create and assess design solutions based on user research insights and user goals.
- Design flows, prototypes, sketches, and high-fidelity UI for your features.
- Translate mockups into reusable components within a Figma design system.
- Ensure consistency across all of our products & integrations by working within our established design system and making updates where necessary.
- Communicate and share your work often in written, verbal, and visual forms to create alignment and move the work towards implementation.
Some projects you might work on:
- Develop a user testing plan for a new feature and administer usability tests.
- Design a solution for integrating a new data point into our student profile.
- Add a new component to our Figma design system and document its uses.
Successful candidates are:
- 2+ years of professional experience in UX design, prototyping, visual design, and user research.
- Online portfolio with case studies of relevant UX/UI projects that demonstrates a history of successful design implementations.
- Visual Design experience with a clear understanding of typography, interaction patterns, color, layout and iconography.
- Excellent communication and organization skills. And can produce clear and descriptive documentation for implementation.
- Experience working with product managers to develop the strategy and rationale for features.
- The flexibility to design in low and high fidelity and choose the most efficient and responsible process for the job at hand.
- The ability to integrate feedback, validate, and iterate on our products while being mindful of our users, contributors, and insights gleaned by our support teams.
- Passionate about mission-driven product work that has a tangible impact on opportunities and outcomes for young people

Pay Range:
$83,278 minimum to $137,409 maximum
While the majority of new hires’ starting salaries shall be expected to be placed in the first half of the range(s) to allow space to grow in the job, for those who already have significant relevant experience at that level of the job, placement at the higher end of the range(s) is possible.
Additional Information:
NYC-based headquarters. Remote options available, ideally working from locations in Eastern Standard Time. Additional details will be shared if selected for an interview
