Product Designer

Job Summary: Design and assess user interfaces (UI) and user experiences (UX) for Air Force staff training simulations as part of a development team. Responsibilities include: conducting user research and testing; developing wireframes and artist mock-ups; capturing and documenting workflows; and collaborating with other team members to create intuitive, user-friendly software.

Essential Job Functions:

• Understand the system operational context and resulting system requirements
• Understand and apply human factors considerations to interface designs
• Identify and document workflows
• Understand user roles and psychology
• Develop and document user personas through engagement at system use occasions and research
• Identify user "pain points" through research and observation
• Develop and refine wireframes and other mockups
• Participate in software design sessions
• Collaborate with other members of a balanced development team, to include participation in appropriate peer reviews
• Collaborate with personnel conducting event/exercise support to identify and document design-related concerns
• Understand and adhere to project schedules and stay within established budgets
• Comply with program processes for software development and configuration management. This includes meaningful participation in Agile development process events such as scrums and sprint reviews

Required Skills:

• Proven experience in UX/UI design
• Portfolio of design projects
• Experience with design software
• Knowledge of HTML and CSS
• Operate collaboratively in a development team environment
• Analytical skills for understanding workflows and user concerns
• Written and oral communication skills sufficient to capture design issues and explain them to both developers and system users
• Use of Git or similar version control system

The following skills would be considered a plus:

• Experience supporting military training events/exercises utilizing simulation-based training systems
• Continuous integration
• Familiarity with Figma and Lucidspark

Required Education/Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in design or a related technical discipline such as computer science, information technology, systems or software engineering from an accredited college or university or any bachelor's and two years additional product design experience. High school diploma and 5 years' additional product experience can substitute for bachelor's degree.
• Minimum 6 years product design experience.

Other Requirements: Please note that pursuant to a government contract, this specific position requires U. S. Citizenship status with ability to obtain a SECRET to TOP SECRET security clearance. Security Clearance requirements will be specified in the Government's Task Order.

This position requires travel, to include international travel. The number of trips is expected to vary between one and six. The duration of each trip is expected to vary between two and twenty days.
