Job Description

About the job
Local candidates only, please. This is a hybrid role in our office in Denver, Colorado with the flexibility to work from home.
The Opportunity
We are looking for a talented Product Designer who is passionate about being the voice of our users, and is excited to play a large role in informing design decisions, product strategies, and identifying new opportunities through both qualitative and quantitative research. This position will be 75% UX design and 25% UI design, so your primary focus may be on the research, validation, and testing phases of design, but you will still be executing end-to-end processes of user-centered design from research, through definition, iteration, testing, and UI. And you will report to the Lead Product Designer on the team. Intrigued? Keep reading!
Why Join Us
You will have the opportunity to work on a growing SaaS product that has a wide range of users, from internal company team members, to external practice staff and their patients/customers. And we have access to them all! Now, orthodontics may not seem initially exciting from an outside perspective, but you'll be working in our core business space - insurance, and there's honestly never a dull moment when you're problem solving for its nuanced complexities.
As a newly structured role on the team, you'll have the opportunity to help shape the growth, impact, and direction of this position. The ideal candidate knows when to be heads-down in "I got this" work mode, but also enjoys collaborating with colleagues to get to the right ideas! As a key partner to your product manager, developers, and other designers, you'll work side-by-side to make our products the best they can be. You are relentless in your pursuit of real feedback from our business stakeholders and most importantly, our users, so that the team can iterate quickly on realized insights. Sometimes you may spiral into a rabbit hole (don't we all?), but it's for the good of the project! You come out quickly with inspired ideas - both analytical and creative - that you then translate into easily digested design and product deliverables.
We may be a small design team, but our designers are highly collaborative, very supportive, and always open to suggestions. We regularly meet to give each other feedback and brainstorm on new ways of thinking. But honestly, sometimes it's just to talk nonsense because everyone needs that, too.
So, if you are looking for an interesting challenge in the healthcare industry, with a group of talented, ambitious, and creative team members, you will not be disappointed!
You Must Have:
  • 2 - 3 years of relevant professional experience
  • A portfolio that shows work you were directly responsible for researching + designing
  • Experience as a primary contributor to high impact human-centered-design thinking projects
  • Experience and passion for user research (including user interviews, usability testing, surveys, journey mapping, etc.)
  • Knowledge or ability to learn Figma as a design tool
  • Experience working with developers from hand-off through production
  • Consistent dedication to lifelong learning in the UX space and beyond
  • An active willingness to own mistakes and learn from them
  • The ability to laugh at yourself

Even Better If:
  • You can take on complicated projects and seek the information you need to move forward. Life is complicated, but isn't that what makes it interesting?
  • You know when to bypass minor UX testing and lean on your expertise, but also when to propose research initiatives to fill in the gaps. Trust your instincts!
  • You can help guide the vision for the product and achieve it through design research, exploration, documentation, and presentations to bring the team along. Sharing is caring.
  • You proactively formulate ideas and initiatives and present them to your cross-functional team to determine strategy and roadmaps. Just like show and tell.
  • You are familiar with designing within the constraints of a design system and can quickly iterate on designs to get valuable feedback. A little design plug + play to get your day going.
  • You question and partner with your leadership team to bring conversations and products forward. We actually want to know what you think! Crazy concept.
  • You effectively present work clearly and in a manner appropriate to the audience. And sometimes we just want to hear the TL; DR.
  • You understand when to have a meeting and when to use asynchronous methods for effective communication. Oh gosh another meeting? Sometimes, yes definitely. Sometimes, let's just not.
  • You take interest in growing the design team in planning, execution, and vision. If you've got an idea, let's hear it.
  • You can tolerate a high number of dad jokes from the VP of Product + Design. Sassy responses are optional. Appreciation is, well, appreciated.

What's in it for you:
  • Full medical, dental, and vision benefits with 100% employer paid options and buy up plans
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Employer HSA contribution
  • 9 Company Paid holidays
  • 401(k) match, 2% after 90 days of employment
  • Supportive culture with one-of-a-kind growth opportunities
  • Option to work from home or in the office
  • Paid Parental Leave
  • Company and team outings
  • Peer-to-peer recognition program
  • Company sponsored premium subscription to the Calm app
  • Vendor discounts

Compensation: $85,000 - $95,000 annually
** Please note that the compensation information that follows is a good faith estimate for Colorado-based hires only and is provided with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act and Equal Pay Transparency Rules.**
You must be authorized to work in the United States. The Company is unable to provide sponsorship for workers.
