Job Summary:

The Product Development Engineer will successfully develop new products or technology through leading research and development, scale up, and field implementation of new products for commercial, industrial, and oilfield applications of coatings, linings, and spray-on coatings. This role will utilize scientific knowledge and experience to design experiments, oversee testing, provide continued data analysis, and design further experimentation. Additionally, this role will manage lab research, plant trials, and technology implementation including reporting status and findings.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Create initial experimental design, administer testing, provide continued data analysis, and design further experimentation to lead to the development of a new and enhanced products.
  • Lead intellectual property process from idea generation to idea validation, to patent application, and patent prosecution.
  • Conduct laboratory and/or pilot plant studies and investigations pertaining to new product development.
  • Coordinate product property development with direct interaction with marketing and/or customers.
  • Conduct field trials pertaining to enhancement of existing products.
  • Coordinate and direct contract analytical and research activities.
  • Guide and participate in toll processing and manufacturing of newly developed products.
  • Plan, coordinate, and attend field trials of newly developed products.
  • Communicate research or technology results to personnel at all levels.
  • Maintain industry contacts and knowledge base through attendance at technical and trade show meetings.
  • Adhere to all safety standards and practices, consistent with corporate safety policy.

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Lead the activities of the laboratory technicians, engineers, or chemists following established project priorities.

    Performs other related duties and/or special projects as required.

Skills and Proficiencies:

  • Extensive scientific and technical knowledge.
  • In depth or wide-ranging expertise with analytical testing and/or processing.
  • Ability to design experiments and analyze data.
  • Requires excellent verbal and written communications skills, interpersonal skills, and proven attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment adapting to changes quickly.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office tools including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Proficient with DOE and statistical analysis methods/tools.

Required Education, Experience, and Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree or PhD in Engineering or Chemistry. PhD preferred.
  • 5+ years of industrial research and product development experience including experience with experimental design, DOE, and data analysis.
  • Working knowledge of polyurea coatings, technology is highly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of coatings and elastomeric coatings is required.
  • Experience with product development, new product implementation, and intellectual property.
  • Must be dedicated to managing projects to meet goals and timelines.

Other Requirements:

This is a Safety Sensitive position which requires the ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
