Job Description

The Product Development Scientist is joining an innovative, rapidly growing team at Acme to create and bring new products to market. We are looking for a candidate with strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, lending technical support to product innovation. Preference will be given to individuals with a strong food science foundation, and a demonstrated expertise in product development to help Acme Smoked Fish Corp. advance its mission of making delicious, innovative smoked seafood products.

Your Responsibilities:

• Work in the food manufacturing environment for process validation, production trials, etc.
• Design and conduct experiments related to creating new product and improving current products in our portfolio.
• Communicate with suppliers on product development projects, ingredient sourcing, and sample requesting and modification.
• Design and execute sensory experiments.
• Generate appropriate reports documenting research projects.
• Communicate inter-company with all departments (QA, Plant Management, Supply Chain, Marketing & Product Development) to align progress on new product commercialization.
• Develop product and manufacturing specifications for new products.
• Provide assistance to commercialization groups for product trials and start-ups and general technical assistance.
• Technical research involving preparation of nutritional information, product claims, conformance with regulatory standards.
• Support other team initiatives with respect to new product commercialization, GFSI compliance, and food safety programs.

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Food Science or related field required.
• Prefer 2+ years' experience of food manufacturing and R&D related work.

Additional Skills & Abilities:

• Work experience in food manufacturing environment and comfortable working in the processing plant.
• Knowledge of FDA food regulations.
• Ability to document research and concise SOPs.
• Proven excellent work record with demonstrated high levels of initiative and self-direction.
• Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions and complete assigned tasks.
• Be a team player and able to communicate well with others.
• Commitment to the objectives of the organization.
• Completion of training programs as assigned and/or required including standard of work.
