Job Purpose

Responsible for reliability, system safety, and risk analysis during new product development. Analyses include historical and performance reliability analysis, failure modes effects analysis, fault tree / fishbone analysis, root cause / corrective action analysis, functional hazard analysis, process capability analysis, and other statistical analysis to support the development and qualification of thermal batteries. Activities include data compilation, data analysis, technical report writing, test, and evaluation of product performance. The selected engineer will work with other members of the engineering department to create design and process solutions that meet customer requirements and company objectives. The selected engineer will also work with the Quality and Manufacturing functions to ensure product reliability to the highest possible standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Serves as lead engineer for product reliability, system safety, functional hazard analysis, failure mode effects analysis (FMEA), and process capability analysis.
• Develops and improves analytical tools for product reliability, system safety, functional hazard analysis, failure mode effects analysis, and process capability analysis.
• Performs research, analysis, test and evaluation of mechanical, chemical, and electrical battery performance, its manufacturing processes, and other related engineering functions.
• Applies research to the planning, design, development, reliability and system safety of battery products.
• Compiles and analyzes production and test data to develop reliability predictions and to inform and improve battery design and manufacturability.
• Evaluates customer specifications and compliance verification of thermal battery form, fit, and function.
• Investigates and evaluates pertinent design factors such as design for manufacturing and assembly, design for cost, reliability, producibility, system safety, mass growth allowance, and electrical performance to ensure product reliability to the highest possible standards.
• Coordinates with other organizations on product reliability and system safety.
• Evaluates battery qualification data to meet product assurance requirements.
• Prepares and presents reliability and system safety evaluations to the Customer.
• Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in either Aerospace, Mechanical, Industrial, or Systems Engineering or Bachelor of Science in physics or statistics with Master in Business Administration.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and statistical / data analytics software is required.
• Working knowledge of FMEA, fault tree / fishbone analysis, root cause / corrective action determination, system safety, and functional hazard analysis required.
• Strong communication and presentation skills are required.
• Effective problem-solving and risk assessment skills, strong work ethic, and initiative are required.
• Working knowledge of statistical process control and reliability prediction and analysis is required.
