Eaton's Power Systems Division is looking for a Summer (May-August) 2023 Product Engineering intern to be based at our South Milwaukee, WI facility.
As a Product Engineering Intern, you will be responsible for assisting the Maintenance of Line (MoL) Engineering team in providing sustaining engineering support for overhead and underground medium voltage reclosers, fault interrupters and switches. Working under the guidance of experienced engineers, you will perform engineering analysis, create detailed designs, execute verification tests, and contribute to the implementation of product cost savings, product improvement, and engineering process improvement projects.

As a Product Engineering Intern, you will be responsible for assisting the Maintenance of Line (MoL) Engineering team in providing sustaining engineering support for overhead and underground medium voltage reclosers, fault interrupters and switches. Working under the guidance of experienced engineers, you will perform engineering analysis, create detailed designs, execute verification tests, and contribute to the implementation of product cost savings, product improvement, and engineering process improvement projects.
Essential Functions
- Develop, sustain, and improve product design and product definition data (bills of materials, 3D models, drawings, and specifications).
- Assist in tasks associated with the introduction of new products and changes to existing products.
- Support production and manufacturing engineering with resolution of production and testing issues.
- Design for Cost/Design for Manufacture Analysis (DFM/DFA) on individual parts, subassemblies with the ability to propose alternate materials and methods of assembly and manufacture.
- Perform engineering analysis and digital simulation leveraging advanced tools (CAD, FEA, statistical analysis, software applications, electrical/mechanical analysis tools, etc.).
- Set aggressive goals, measures performance, and strives to go beyond what is expected.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program with a major in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.
- Minimum overall cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher.
- Completed sophomore year or higher coursework.
- Able to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now and in the future.
- No relocation is provided for this role. Candidates must reside within 50 miles of the South Milwaukee, WI facility.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working in an engineering or manufacturing setting.
- Experience in 3D modeling.
- Hands-on experience building prototypes or other equipment.
