Sleep Doctor seeks a Product Journalist to research, test, and report on a wide variety of sleep-related products to help consumers understand what they need to get a better night’s sleep.

As our in-house expert you’ll develop a deep understanding of some of the most popular sleep products on the market, including sheets, pillows, and mattresses. You’ll design and implement a battery of rigorous, hands-on testing procedures to assess product performance and contribute novel testing data to our product review process. You’ll also analyze consumer trends, interpret customer feedback and interview product users to contextualize the testing data and identify areas for further product research and testing.You’ll then bring this data to life by creating enterprising, multimedia product review content that is human, engaging, thoughtful, and informative. This will include informative written reviews, engaging infographics, and on-camera video reviews for our portfolio of high-traffic web sites, thriving YouTube channels, and robust social media accounts. 

The ideal candidate will have a rigorous scientific and inquisitive mindset with strong communication skills across a variety of media. Likewise, they will need to be a self-starter who is empowered by owning a process and seeks to continually improve it. A background in science journalism, engineering, or product reviews is a plus.

This position reports to Sleep Doctor's Creative Producer and will be based out of our Seattle office.

What You'll Do

• Develop, perform, and validate robust in-house tests on a wide range of sleep products
• Communicate results of testing through video, social, graphics and web content
• Conduct user feedback sessions and surveys
• Understand trends and develop new testing protocols and parameters
• Calibrate and refine our tests to ensure data quality and consumer understanding
• Manage a repository of testing data
• Working with various interdepartmental stakeholders, act as in-house product expert to align product review content across the entire company portfolio

What we are looking for

• At least 3-5 years experience in journalism, communication, or technical writing.
• An eye for detail and ability to build strong testing protocols
• Knowledge and understanding of current market and cultural trends
• Ability to extrapolate and bring data to life through multimedia content in a way that’s human, engaging, thoughtful, and informative
• Prior experience with public speaking/on-camera work is a plus but not required
• Ability to both work independently and in highly collaborative teams
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds

Compensation Range

$70,000 to $80,000. Note that final compensation is subject to the candidate’s specific qualifications and location, as well as the needs of the company.

This position is eligible to participate in the company’s annual bonus plan. The target bonus opportunity is 15% of the base salary. 

The Company currently provides medical, vision, and dental insurance with 99% to 100% of the employee  medical, vision,   and   dental   premiums  covered   by   the   Company.  There is an option to participate in both a medical FSA and dependent care FSA. We offer a 401(k) plan, with fully matching contributions up to 3% of salary and 50% matching from 3% to 5% of salary.  You will be eligible for Paid Time Off in accordance with the company’s policies. Our Seattle-based employees will receive commuter benefits.
