- The primary role of Engineering function within Product Development team is to create specifications and designs for new products or improvements and enhancements to existing products. Works closely with customers, developers and other stakeholders to understand and define customer needs in these designs. Features are aligned to a timetable and areas of responsibility. Developers may solicit customers for feedback regarding product usability and desired future enhancements. Product developers who specialize in hardware systems should be matched to Hardware Engineering.
- The primary objective of Mechanical Engineering(PD) specialization within Engineering(PD) Job Family is to perform the mechanical engineering activities necessary to develop products from concept to production within ResMed Quality Standards. Mechanical engineers operate within a project team and are tasked with the responsibility to design, develop and verify products that can be manufactured in high volume, in a cost and time effective manner, while achieving exceptional reliably in order to meet, or exceed customer needs.
- Contributes (from a mechanical background) to an engineering team to research, design, analyze, fabricate, test, evaluate, modify, verify, validate and qualify motorized blowers, rotary components, brushless DC motors, voice coil actuators, electro-mechanical devices, pneumatic systems and sub-components focusing on (system, mechanical, electrical, packaging) design for high-volume manufacture (hundreds of thousands to millions per year).

- Performs sustaining engineering functions from a product development perspective to existing products released in the field in accordance with ResMed Quality Management System
- Supports the design change process on released motorized blower systems and performs risk assessments with respect to potential impacts to product fit, form, or function.
- Collaborates with Systems Engineering group as required to quantify risk impacts from the motorized blowers to the downstream flow generator level.
- Executes engineering tests for motorized blowers and associated components, performs analyses and reports the results.
- Performs to individual goals established during MyDay meetings.
- Applies engineering principles with emphasis in physics, motor design, rotor dynamics, sound (noise) and vibration, machine design, structural dynamics, statistics, six sigma, risk analysis, numerical methods (finite element analysis), fluid mechanics (dynamics), project planning and engineering economics.
- Executes the generation of mechanical design, tolerance analysis, layouts, and engineering drawings.
- Operate with a high level of autonomy whilst leading and interacting effectively with, and seeking input from team members and other areas of the business including manufacturing, quality, operations, procurement, supplier alliance and the customer to ensure the products being developed are appropriate and satisfy all necessary requirements.
- Contribute to the development and refinement of processes used in manufacturing the product.
- Write technical proposals to communicate proposed product design and specification changes
- Executes the authorship and execution of protocols and perform testing, verification, and validation of designed products to ensure they meet the necessary requirements and specifications.
- Proven ability to communicate well in written and verbal communications within team peers and management.
- Demonstrated strength with soft skills including a positive attitude, flexibility and conflict resolution.

Required:
- Bachelors degree in Engineering
- Good understanding of manufacturing operations and/or the product development lifecycle and the broader ResMed business.
- Excellent understanding of motor and/or rotary components.
- Good understanding of sound (noise) and vibration theory, testing, equipment, and data analysis.
- Experience with controlled documents, change note processes, engineering drawings and geometric dimensioning and tolerances.
- Experience with risk management and FMEA.
- Familiarity with plastic part design and design for plastic injection molding.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to use computer with Windows based operating system and the following software: Microsoft Office Suite including Project, Minitab, Matlab.
- Ability to use Creo / ProE CAD software, and PDM / Intralink.
- Ability to use structural finite element software such as ANSYS.
- Ability to use statistical analysis and six sigma techniques.
Preferred:
- Masters Degree in Engineering
- 3 years experience in Mechanical Engineering
- Experience with reliability engineering principles is a plus.
