Data Science Product Manager

As the Data Science Product Manager, you will lead discovery and design of products based on Royal Canin's analytics demands and the global analytics strategy, steering decisions with market teams and the global function to ensure a strategy-aligned, consistent, governed, cost-effective approach that enables Royal Canin to be truly driven by data. You will drive the product development, based on interactions with the business and the delivery team, developing appropriate structures to support the products in production. You will be reporting to the Global Analytics Director for Royal Canin and will partner with stakeholders in the business, technical leads, other product managers and product owners across Royal Canin, and the Mars Global Petcare Data & Analytics team responsible for managing best in class analytical products & services.

What are we looking for?

The Data Science Product Manager will function as a technical lead for business intelligence, advanced analytics and machine learning efforts for the Data & Analytics function. This position will interface with cross functional business teams as well as Global stakeholders, tech teams and Global Petcare Analytics. The Data Science Product Manager is responsible for representing the business' interests when engaging with the delivery team, and representing the delivery team's interest when engaging with the business. The Product Manager is well versed in all aspects of data science development process, from ideation and scoping through to implementation and ongoing support. The Product Manager has a deep technical understanding of Data Science concepts such as bias and drift, understands the role coding styles plays and has a firm grasp of machine learning algorithm types, how the machine learning training process works, which problems that can arise during the process, what the causes are, and how to mitigate them.

What will be your key responsibilities?

  • Manage the wider analytics product portfolio for Royal Canin, eventually focusing on a specific class of business problems, for example supply chain
  • Own roadmap, vision, and strategy within your product area/s - aligned with the vision and strategy of the Royal Canin Data and Analytics team
  • Full ownership of product lifecycle from inception to release management and evolution including e.g. risk-mitigation of bias in the machine learning models during the development process, and data drift once machine learning models are in production
  • Make product decisions rooted in value and viability, considering user needs, technical needs and restrictions, and costs
  • Ensure output meets the need of the end users and is implementable/actionable and value-generating
  • Define relevant product KPIs and setup tracking
  • Develop support structures, e.g. error handling processes using ticketing systems, tiered support processes and service level agreements
  • Define best in class product management for the Data & Analytics team and be an advocate for up-to-date analytics product management practices and methodologies within and outside of the team
  • Own and develop business cases
  • Pitch to the business and win new business
  • Work with business leads and experts, as well as external stakeholders, end users and delivery team to analyze, define, and align on business problems and value creation opportunities, identifying the most impactful problems to solve
  • Guide and lead data science efforts to optimize machine learning models being built and deployed, as well as making sure that the delivery happens in an optimal fashion
  • Present advanced analytical output back to business stakeholders, in an easily digestible and actionable form and train the delivery team in doing the same
  • Develop business cases and pitch ideas to the business, winning new business

Education & Professional Qualifications

Minimum Qualification:

  • 8+ years working experience with analytical products based on data and/or advanced degree in data management and analytics or similar technical field
  • Four year college degree
  • Cross functional experience

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge / Experience

  • Advanced degree in Business Analytics, Statistics, Economics, Business Administration, etc.
  • CPG experience
  • Development of data-based analytics products as a minimum at a project/product management level. Hands-on analytics experience combined with project/product management preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to manage production teams
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and translate business requirements into actionable analytics plans including ensuring data foundations are in place
  • Understanding of the life cycle of analytical products
  • Experience in assessing and mitigating project/product risks
  • Curiosity and passion for solving business problems using data
  • Self-directed, motivated, and the ability to organize multiple tasks and projects
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment
