The Group: Morningstar Indexes is one of the fastest growing business units at Morningstar. The team provides indexing solutions to measure and benchmark markets and asset classes around the world and offers a broad suite of global equity, bond, and asset allocation indexes. Morningstar Indexes are designed to help investors at every stage of the investment process - market monitoring, benchmarking, asset allocation, and portfolio construction. Global asset managers use Morningstar ESG indexes, which are predominantly created using Morningstar Sustainalytics data, to create investable products such as ETFs, Mutual Funds, and Structured Products.
The Role:
The role of the ESG Index Product Manager involves owning the lifecycle of new indexes and maintaining existing ESG indexes. Reporting to the Director of Product Management for EMEA and ESG, you will be part of a global team with colleagues based in the US, EMEA, Asia, and Australia. You will work closely with the index new product development team to enhance existing indexes, collaborate with marketing to ensure our sales team is equipped with enablement materials, and coordinate with index operations to uphold high standards for data quality. Additionally, you will work closely with Morningstar Sustainalytics to ensure consistent collaboration on new and existing ESG data sets.
Responsibilities will include:

  • Become a subject matter expert for all current Morningstar ESG Indexes.
  • Own Index documentation including maintaining ESG Index rulebooks and marketing content.
  • Work closely with Index operations to ensure high standards for underlying ESG data.
  • Partner with regulatory experts to ensure alignment with evolving reporting standards for ESG Indexes.
  • Assist with market analysis including competitive analysis.
  • Deliver requirements to technical product owners for new technical ESG projects.
  • Work with sales to help execute on tactical ESG Index opportunities.
  • Develop strong relationships with Sustainalytics and collaborate on new index opportunities.
  • Recommend enhancements to existing Indexes to keep pace with the evolving ESG market.


Preferred Requirements:

  • 2-3 years' experience working with Sustainability data or an ESG investment product.
  • Experience in Indexes is a plus.
  • Must be a self-starter who can work independently at times.
  • Excellent client-focus and service mindset.
  • Detailed oriented with strong writing skills.
  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced global work environment, exhibit a passion for innovation, and harbor a genuine belief in Morningstar`s core values.
  • Candidates must hold a bachelor`s degree and have excellent academic credentials. Progress towards MBA, CFA, or sustainability certificates is a plus.
  • For internal candidates, knowledge of Sustainalytics and Direct desired.
  • Some travel required.
