Job Description

The Product Owner role requires experience in working on Agile teams and self-motivated initiative to continuously improve the Product Owner role in alignment with best practices. Managing and prioritizing a product backlog by collaborating with the Product Manager and stakeholders are key elements.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Lead a Cross-Functional Team Using Agile Principles (30%)

  • Consistently encourage and communicate the Agile mindset of consistent growth, failing forward, etc
  • Provide education and communication to the Agile team as well as business stakeholders, to promote an understanding of Agile principles and how they impact the growth of the product as a whole
  • Ensure consistent execution of Agile 'ceremonies' as informed by the principles mentioned above

Understand User Needs (20%)

  • Meet regularly with stakeholders and clients to understand their specific pain points, ideas, and needs
  • Track trends in the kinds of feedback that are received: e.g., are multiple clients experiencing a pain point? Do they have similar ideas for improvement?
  • Use this information to form a backlog of stories and bugs that can be prioritized into sprints
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders and clients - be their empathetic and listening ear
  • Collaborate with architects, developers, business analysts, and operations team to determine the best path forward

Translate User Feedback/Needs into Features that Delight Users (30%)

  • Use the principles in Key Responsibility #2 to work with the software development team to develop epics and user stories
  • Manage the backlog; prioritize stories and ensure they are refined and complete
  • Plan and execute Agile ceremonies: standups; sprint planning; grooming; refinement; and retrospectives
  • Ensure business requirements and acceptance criteria are fully understood and interpreted for and by developers
  • Develop and maintain stakeholder and client relationships; gain feedback and insight via Sprint Reviews and Voice of the Customer conversations to pursue Continuous Excellence values

Understanding the Market for Your Product, In Collaboration with the Product Manager (10%)

  • Maintain memberships in relevant social media groups, networking organizations, and market research groups to gain intelligence regarding market direction
  • Meet regularly with the product manager to understand roadmap development
  • Collaborate consistently with PM and other business stakeholders to be sure there's an understanding of stakeholder and client insights

Use Analytics to Show Effectiveness, Communicate Velocity, and Understand Capacity for Sprints and Releases (10%)

  • Provide regular reports to leadership on sprint velocity, resource management, and affects of upcoming features on needs
  • Maintain consistent data on feature adoption
  • Utilize available data to inform decisions on future feature development

Qualifications (Education, Experience, Certifications & KSA):

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience, preferred
  • Certified Scrum Product Owner credentials preferred
  • 3 - 4 years related work experience
