Job Description

The Product Owner, part of the Common Architecture and Technology (CAT) group, is responsible for building and maintaining the backlog for our Research & Development teams. This position requires an understanding of the Rockwell portfolio, the industrial automation market and agile software development practices. This role interacts frequently with product management, architecture, engineering, and other roles both within CAT and across Rockwell.

Essential Functions: This position acts as the key liaison between CAT Technology Management and our R&D teams. The primary responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage one or more Team backlogs that are thoughtful, visible, and the "single source of truth". Work flowed to your Team will typically originate from multiple sources.
  • Define backlog items, including clear and concise acceptance criteria.
  • Run regular backlog refinement sessions with Team and other shared services
  • Work with Technology Management and internal stakeholders on prioritization and prioritizing methods.
  • Optimize the flow of backlog items to multiple Teams, especially in preparation of both recurring PI Planning events and other due dates.
  • Track the Sprint-by-Sprint goals and PI-by-PI objectives, in support of quality and on-time Releases, typically at Sprint or PI boundaries.
  • Enable Team Members to practice lean development by reducing waste and planning infrastructure and maintenance stories.
  • Identify blocking items that prevent planned work from being completed, then navigate contingency planning of secondary priorities and execution.
  • Work effectively with the Scrum Master, Release Train Engineer, Technology Manager, Team Members and all applicable Stakeholders relating to tools, process, techniques, and relationships.
  • Socialize the work product on a regular basis, seeking feedback from internal/external Stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related engineering field or equivalent experience
  • Legal authorization to work in the US is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening
  • Ability to travel on occasion

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience and demonstrated knowledge of industrial automation applications
  • Experience with Rockwell products
  • Experience in the industrial automation industry
  • Experience with Scrum, SAFe or agile development practices
  • Experience with Jira, Jama and/or similar tools
  • Product management experience, experience with embedded software or firmware preferred
  • Ability to collaborate across various functions and business units to achieve common objectives
  • Pragmatic approach to problem solving
  • This position is part of a job family. Experience will be the determining factor.
