ROLE SUMMARY

Northern Trust Asset Management (NTAM) is an over a trillion dollar investment management firm entrusted by investors around the globe to help them navigate changing market environments, so they can confidently realize their long-term objectives.

NTAM has embarked on an ambitious plan to modernize its data and analytics capabilities and embed a data-driven culture throughout the organization. The Product Data Platform Owner will evolve and govern the data contained in the Product Data Portal database throughout its lifecycle, including definition, distribution and quality of the data. This role serves as the SME for all business-related activities within the Product Data Portal framework and will collaborate with leaders within the business, operations and technology. All data field in the database will be owned by the Product Data Owner, who is the authority to decide on the access to, and usage of, the data. The Data Owner will be able to monitor dashboards, validate or troubleshoot specific values, based on experience and subject matter expertise. (e.g. by contacting a data customer, by looking into a file, etc.)

Works within the Data Operations Team, playing a key role in the further evolution of the PDP database. This role will require a self-starter with proven ability to work collaboratively within and across teams and who can influence and motivate those around them, while ensuring data is maintained to NTAM standards.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Build and lead a world-class Product Data and Analytics platform focused on delivering business insights to drive excellence across NTAM. Responsibilities include:

  • Independently assess, manage, maintain strategies that increase the consistency/confidence of data used within the PDP platform, managing data that flows in from upstream sources and out of the product/application to consumers.
  • Instill tools and processes to maintain a high-quality data standard across the PDP database.
  • Identify the intersection of user and consumer problems worth solving based on deep understanding of the business and consumer needs.
  • Partner and collaborate with NTAM technology teams to transform business problems into platform and data-driven solutions.
  • Collaborate with partners across the organization as the scope of data within PDP increases, maintaining data governance and data quality structures to ensure business needs are met, without sacrificing quality, risk mitigation and cost efficiency.
  • Seek feedback and monitor how the platform is performing through measurable indicators to develop and drive iterations of future enhancements.
  • Leverage technical skills and database knowledge to execute queries in PDP databases, investigating and responding to any questions or issues that arise related to data situated within the platform.
  • Resolve data issues within the platform in a timely manner, taking into consideration the criticality of such issues, and work with other partners and teams as necessary to ensure issues are remedied and escalating to relevant partner areas as required.
  • Work within NTAM's data management framework following standards, processes and controls and contribute content for the creation and maintenance of common data dictionaries.
  • Participate in periodic reviews to ensure continued compliance with the data governance and other policies that the PDP platform is subject to adhere to.

NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Product knowledge and strong understanding of data housed in the PDP platform, including but not limited to data related to NTAM's Equity, Fixed Income, Cash, Multi-Asset Products, Mutual Funds, Institutional and Retail Strategies.
  • Knowledge of database structures and proficiency in database queries.
  • Understanding of data warehousing concepts and data integration strategies.
  • Experience with data management principals, including but not limited to data governance, data stewardship, data quality and data dictionaries.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Collaborative style to work with and build alignment with partners in other areas, including Product, Marketing, and Technology.

NECESSARY EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

  • Highly motivated and experienced leader with 4+ years of experience in establishing or running data platforms.
  • Degree in a field such as Math, Data Science, Engineering, Statistics, Finance .
  • Strong commercial acumen and a track record of delivering tangible results.
  • Investment management industry experience preferred.
