The Product Owner's responsibilities include coordinating and owning products (i.e., new initiatives, features to existing products and / or customers' initiatives) within Kanopy, judiciously balancing finite product resources of scope, budget, and time. This position is responsible for managing the entire product lifecycle (i.e., R&D, requirements gathering process, analysis, stakeholder interviews, documenting specifications, verification of system designs, implementation, tracking progress, coordinating testing, FAQs, and demos) for development and workflow requests for external and internal clients. This position also may serve as a liaison between Kanopy and the client and other team members.About Kanopy:

By partnering with universities and libraries, we've made it possible to offer free access to the world's top film collection for millions of people. We are looking for the right Product Owner to come and join our team as we continue to scale our efforts.Responsibilities:

• Work closely with team members to comprehend the business case, project scope, and client's current processes. Work with other product owners to develop requirements (business, user, and technology, both functional and non-functional) and confirm alignment with the company's vision.
• Assist team members with critical communication.
• Communicate project status and issues to Development, Product Management Team, and other Kanopy staff as appropriate.
• Assist team members with conducting research and testing relevant to new initiatives.
• Create and maintains project documentation as required.
• Assist with gathering requirements throughout the project lifecycle by establishing and maintaining agreements between the internal client and the project team.
• Assist with development efforts by capturing business context / problem, client needs, current state, desired future state, objectives, and impacted user groups.
• Ensure requirements are specified in a manner suitable for the intended audience and are understandable, unambiguous, and capable of being implemented and tested.
• Serve as liaison between the customer (end user and/or customer and/or internal stakeholder) and OverDrive Design and Development teams, coordinating work and making final development decisions.
• Understand customer/end user current processes and problems and lead ideation on possible solutions. When best solution(s) are product-related, in partnership with Development Team, negotiate as needed to arrive at a solution that meets the demands of the business while satisfying Kanopy's high technical thresholds, bearing in mind limitation on scope, time, and budget. Co-lead execution by capturing business context/problem, client needs, current state, desired future state, objectives, and impacted user groups.
• Assess change requests related to requirements to assess overall impact. Responsible for ensuring change control and change management procedures are followed as they relate to requirements.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 2 - 5+ years of related experience (i.e., business analyst, project management, client / customer relations, etc.).
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong listening skills.
• Expert experience writing and reviewing business, user and non-functional / system level requirements.
• Solid understanding of obtaining requirements and acceptance from stakeholders, sponsors, clients, and user community.
• Expert experience at creating strong client relationships that foster the spirit of innovation, improvement, and collaborative win-win outcomes.
• Ability to act independently to deliver and manage requirements to schedule and scope.
• Solid understanding of tracking and managing multiple projects while working with a variety of cross-functional resources.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
