The Product Owner role is an opportunity for a motivated team-based individual that excels in a collaborative, data-rich, technical, and customer-focused environment. The Smart Services Product Owner is critical in achieving Trane Technologies' vision for a more sustainable world. They are responsible for the vision and delivery of Trane's software portfolio that provides remote inspections, smart maintenance and other connected equipment maintenance support.
The role is within Trane's Digital Solutions organization, which has a unique feel of a startup while also understanding how to scale to large production environments. The Product Owner is critical to the success of Trane's Digital Services business by serving as a technical expert that leads an agile software development team in the creation and expansion of software applications that provide data visualization, analysis and reporting capabilities.
The product owner will collaborate with portfolio and business leaders to create a vision that connects their product to the broader business and portfolio strategy. This strategy will guide your creation of a specific product solution roadmap that will be used to align the technical and business stakeholders for resource and funding support. You will also be responsible for translating the customer and business needs into the agile software process by gathering, writing, managing and explaining feature requirements for the software development team. Your ongoing contribution to the culture and delivery of the team by leading software development sprints, creating user stories, refining backlog, participating in user experience activities, defining MVP / offering releases, and accepting the completion of user stories will be key to the success of the program.
What you will do (Essential functions)
- Provide full accountability and transparency for vision, delivery of the assigned product
- Serve as a technical expert for assigned offerings
- Develops an understanding of the customer experience and translates customer and business needs into solution roadmaps
- Builds, maintains and prioritizes development backlog given input and collaboration with stakeholders and team members
- Provide leadership to development team including creating user stories and acceptance criteria, planning sprints, managing backlog, organizing customer releases, and supporting agile development standard work
- Work closely in a "hands-on" style with development team including addressing daily prioritization needs, providing real-time feedback and answering questions on an ongoing basis
- Ensure adherence to best practices for agile software development
- Provide updates, information and demos of product features and timelines to stakeholders, business leadership and external partners/vendors
- Conduct or facilitate voice of customer activities to identify business, customer, and user needs based on stakeholder interviews, focus groups, "day-in-the-life" studies, and advisory panels.
- Represent the needs of end customers, controls and service business in all activities. Capture user and business needs in the form of user stories, functionality expectations, performance requirements, test plans, acceptance criteria, and system interactions
- Coordinates functional and technical details with other Product Owners

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in science, technology, engineering, or related field
- 2+ years of experience within HVAC, building automation & controls, equipment service and/or building energy management (BAS, BEMS) or similar
- 2+ years of experience as product owner, product manager, solutions lead or similar role for software and/or analytics-based solutions
- Agile mindset / Agile product development experience
- Demonstrated success working with engineering teams to plan, develop, refine, and launch successful products
- Experience solving problems in creative and innovative ways
- Collaborative self-starter
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to travel up to 10% in the future
Nice to Have:
- 5+ years of relevant industry and/or product or project management experience
- Experience with remote building service solutions
- Experience in sectors of both the energy and building industries.
- Familiarity with Confluence, JIRA, and user experience (UX) design
- Experience working within a greenfield software development environment
- Experience collaborating with remote teams (including international)

Base Compensation Range is $88,000 to $184,000
Disclaimer: This base salary range is based on US national averages. Actual base pay could be a result of seniority, merit, geographic location where the work is performed
