JOB DESCRIPTION:
Join the UW Shared Services group as the Product, Workflow & Development Consulting Director to drive a broad scope of project based development of workflows and processes in a diverse environment. By interacting and communicating with all levels of leadership within the organization, you will be an instrumental proponent in process improvements focusing on Specialty as well as Commercial lines of business by providing Business & Solution Optimization for the Underwriting function across the enterprise. This is a remote role and may be located within the continental US.
Overview
  • Individual Contributor role that partners with CNA business units to identify, design, and execute initiatives that: address key business issues; optimize business processes; and enable Underwriting goal achievement.
  • Role is engaged with high priority Underwriting work and collaborates with stakeholders to creatively problem-solve complex issues, inform decision making and shape future approaches.
  • Provide strong thought partnership, project, and program management. Guide successful execution and delivery of initiatives.
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills required to successfully partner with BU leaders to deliver Underwriting initiatives that provide measurable business impact and accelerate growth.
  • The Product, Workflow & Overview Development Team also drives special project / enterprise program management across a variety of topics including:
    • MGU/DUA new opportunity framework and implementation
    • Underwriting tool enablement / Underwriting decision support augmentation (provide business guidance and liaise with Technology Teams when system augmentation / updates are required)
    • Model office facilitation for new processes
    • Centralized Underwriting communication distribution including UW Advisor and authority restrictions

Responsibilities
  • Partner with business and functional leaders to align on strategic and/or operational intent, assess current landscape and design future models.
  • Serve as the Underwriting representative for an assigned portfolio(s) which requires building deep subject matter expertise in that portfolio(s), and its strategic and operational objectives.
  • Conduct relevant industry and market analysis, complimented by best practices and benchmarking to inform recommendations that drive business process optimization.
  • Facilitate or participate in workshops with BU partners, synthesize and summarize feedback and issues, define gaps between current and desired state, and develop recommendations.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Underwriting and Technology leadership teams reaching decisions to prioritize recommendations and improvements that optimize resources and processes, enhance outcomes, and positively impact Underwriting goal achievement.
  • Establish the strategic and tactical roadmap for key initiatives.
  • Plan and oversee key initiatives either as an individual contributor or by leading a cross-functional team. Develop and deliver new or improved processes, workflows, technologies and enhancements to existing platforms.
  • Understand key changes to people, process and technology and create or ensure creation of change plans that include appropriate communication, training and development materials, and drive end user adoption of new workflows, processes or programs.

Typically AVP or above
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
  • Solid working knowledge of the Property & Casualty insurance industry including products, processes, best practices and emerging industry trends, with particular focus and lens on Specialty lines, preferably at CNA
  • Strong consultative skills. Ability to advise and counsel senior leadership levels to foster strategic alignment and influence decisions.
  • Ability to bring a disciplined thought process and dynamic problem-solving ability to complex situations and business challenges.
  • Proven ability and experience to develop and manage complex project plans from concept to implementation phases.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize and execute multiple concurrent projects and competing priorities seamlessly.
  • Advanced communication and facilitation skills, both written and verbal - with proven ability to influence and maintain collaborative relationships (external and internal).
  • Proven and demonstrated knowledge of change management best practices.
  • Strong professional acumen, agility and accountability.
  • High level of integrity with regards to confidential information.

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree preferred in a related discipline, or equivalent insurance industry certifications / designations.
  • Typically a minimum of ten years related work experience in a combination of advisory, consulting and/or industry roles.
  • Direct or matrixed leadership experience preferred.
