Position Purpose

The Mechanical Fabricator I will assist with manufacturing, assembling, fabricating, and welding products. This individual must be highly functional in multiple disciplines to help support and deliver a finished product to TAIT’s standards of quality. This role requires knowledge of MIG, TIG, and FCAW (aluminum and steel) mechanical, assembly, and fabrication procedures and techniques.

Variety of Shifts Available: 

• Standard Hours for 1st shift: Monday- Friday 7:00am-3:30pm 
• Standard Hours for 2nd shift: Monday- Thursday 3:30pm-2:00am *10% differential
• Standard Hours for Weekend shift: Friday-Sunday 5:00am-5:00pm *25% differential 

Responsibilities

• Read and understand blueprints, drawings, and welding procedure specifications
• Adhere to proper welding, fabrication, and assembly techniques
• Weld small and large components in flat, vertical, and overhead positions
• Maintain accurate dimensional tolerances set forth on drawings
• Assess welded surfaces, structures, and components to identify errors
• Maintain traceability requirements by assisting with documentation on drawing redlines
• Qualify in a variety of welding procedures based on project requirements
• Utilize various hand and power tools to complete tasks
• Ensure TAIT’s 5 standards of care are coordinated into all daily activities: Safety, Quality, Team, Schedule, and Cost
• Perform tasks satisfactorily with minimal supervision
• Manage priorities as they change throughout a shift
• Accurately capture all labor hours and material in Epicor
• Work efficiently and effectively to ensure adherence to schedules, production goals, and budget
• Maintain a clean and organized workspace, including tools and equipment
• Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures, as well as sanitation regulations
• Perform other duties as assigned, including those outside department/area as necessary

Requirements: Education, Experience & Skills

• High school diploma, GED, or trade school graduate
• 4+ years of practical welding experience preferred
  • Preferred experience in GTAW (TIG), GMAW (MIG), and/or FCAW (Flux core)
• Experience using MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) a plus
• Fabrication and mechanical assembly experience
• Knowledge of welding symbols
• Excellent knowledge and proficiency of welding machinery, electrical equipment, manual tools, precision measuring equipment, and machine shop equipment
• Knowledge and experience in rigging equipment and practices a plus
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and drawings
• Outstanding attention to detail
• Effective oral and written communication skills
• Ability to handle changing priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Flexibility with work schedule, including some holidays and alternate shifts as required; ability to work OT (more than 40 hours) in any given week as needed

• Must be able to stand for extended periods of time
• Must be able to lift or move up to 50 lbs.
• Must be able to carry up to 50 lbs.
• Must be able to pull or push up to 50 lbs.
• Must be able to reach overhead
• Must be able to work in small, sometimes awkward spaces and positions

Work conditions of the role are:

• Work conditions may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements such as dirt, dust, fumes, unpleasant odors, and loud noises
• Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks which require following basic safety precautions
• Must be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work within or visit areas where required. This includes hard hat, safety glasses, reflective vest, ear plugs, steel toed shoes, and other PPE as required by the department
