General Description:

Vital Link, Inc.'s core business is in the fabrication, maintenance, and installation of jet engine test facilities and sound suppression systems. This requires that the corporation support both field and plant operations, while operating both in a commercial and military environment on a worldwide basis. The Production Control Supervisor will be primarily responsible for ensuring that fabrication jobs are properly supported in terms of scheduling, issuance of shop drawings/cut sheets, Bills of Material, and buyout parts or fabrication services.

Particular Duties:

Primary Functions:

1. Review all project plans and specifications as they apply to fabrication activities, to ensure that production control activities, documentation, and document control are in accordance with the contract requirements.

2. Based upon the overall project schedule provided by the Project Manager, develop the fabrication schedule for each job. Organize the fabrication schedule to achieve the project schedule in a timely and efficient manner. The schedule should break the job down into major assemblies or parts, organized as they will be released for fabrication,

3. Ensure that all production control activities are controlled and coordinated in a timely and orderly manner in accordance with the overall project schedule for the job.

4. Oversee other employees in Production Control and delegate work as needed to maintain shop schedule and due dates.

5. Review prints and determine the overall job requirements for generation of cut sheets, buyout of materials, buyout services -rolling, machining, bending, etc. Notify the Purchasing Agent and QA Supervisor when special inspections or tests are to be performed under subcontract (i.e., those required by contract which are beyond the capability of the company). Notify the Project Manager and QA Supervisor of unique quality requirements of a contract or related specification or drawing that was not previously identified.

6. Based upon the Bill of Material provided by the Project Manager, develop the work routers for VLI fabricated items. Forward the Purchase Requisition for all raw materials, and buyout items/hardware for fabricated members, to the Purchasing department.

7. Coordinate with other plant departments concerning the execution of work and project schedules, provide weekly reports concerning schedules for all fabrication activities.

8. Participate in regular meetings with the other departments and upper management to review status of fabrication jobs.

Special Requirements: Due to the critical nature of this function to the overall performance of the fabrication facility, flexibility and ability: to work overtime or extended hours is required. Position requires strong experience in sheet metal and structural steel fabrication, communication and organizational skills, capability in spreadsheet, EJE and word processing software.

Training: Formal training in relevant disciplines may be substituted for a portion of the required education as deemed relevant by the HR and Department Supervisors.

Education: A high school degree is required and an associates or bachelor’s degree or equivalent in business experience is preferred.

Experience: The PC Supervisor must possess a minimum of three years experience as production control lead or production planner in a metal fabrication business.

Licenses/Certification: None is required.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Must be computer literate in spreadsheets and word processing applications, Microsoft Office Suite or similar. The position requires intensely detailed oriented work, including periods of extended data entry tasks. Strong organizational skills required. Must have ability to handle multiple tasks. Must have strong teamwork skills and ability to obtain cooperation of others to maintain the organized and efficient flow of information through the Production Control Department to and from other departments. Must be trainable and willing to learn new skills and tasks required by the Production Control function.

Physical: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Body Positions: Regularly required sitting, with some standing and walking.

Body Movements: The employee must have a full range of body movements including the use of hands to fingers, handle or feel objects, computer equipment and peripherals, and bending, reaching and crouching.

Body Senses: Must have command of sight, hearing, and touch. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust and focus. These vision requirements in each area must be sufficient to shift in focus from computer screens to close forms and back routinely. Must hear and speak well enough to conduct business over the telephone.

Strength: Not applicable.

Working Conditions: This position will be working primarily indoors in a climate controlled, smoke free

office environment, but also requires the visitation to job site areas on an as need to basis. From this movement the employee will encounter slightly varying temperatures from these areas. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but is higher in the manufacturing work sites.

Usually eight (8) to ten (10) hour workdays per week with occasional Saturday work, as well as additional early and/or late workdays to accommodate special business circumstances.
