Overview
This position serves as the Trauma Informed Communities Program Coordinator within the Division of Fatality Review and Prevention (FRP) at the client.
The purpose of this position is to utilize evidence-based strategies and programming to address the social, emotional, and developmental impacts of childhood trauma, enhancing capacities to support youth through a trauma-sensitive framework, and reduce adverse impacts associated with childhood trauma through 1.) the identification of at-risk youth exposed to childhood trauma, and 2.) the adoption of trauma-sensitive strategies to support positive educational outcomes and reduce youth risk of juvenile justice involvement. Applicants with prior experience working with Indiana's criminal justice system and youth prevention programming are encouraged to apply.
The Trauma Informed Communities Programs Coordinator will provide oversight and technical assistance statewide to support the Handle with Care program. Handle with Care enhances community efforts to support children exposed to violence and crime through a collaborative approach identifying at-risk children and connecting to early intervention to mitigate risks associated with Adverse Childhood Experiences. This position will develop and support other community-based prevention initiatives to enhance opportunities for resilience for children and families impacted by childhood trauma utilizing evidence-based and trauma-informed prevention strategies.
Technical assistance, data collection, training, public speaking, and meeting facilitation are requirements of this position. This position will also support program needs relating to contract development, monitoring of federal and state budgets, quarterly and annual reports, strategic plan development, and creation of prevention materials. This position contributes to the client/Commission/Office/Division vision, mission, and objectives by facilitating the integration of public health and prevention activities to improve the health of Hoosiers.
This position is funded through 12/31/2024 but is anticipated to be renewed for an additional year.
Duties
Connect recommendations and prevention strategies from state and local child fatality review teams relating to schools.
Develop evidence-based prevention initiatives based on state and local data.
Create prevention materials to support education and awareness.
Provide technical assistance to local communities, including schools and law enforcement agencies, implementing the Handle with Care program.
Identify and coordinate trauma-informed trainings for all relevant sectors and community partners.
Assist with data collection strategies through local partners for effective evaluation of program outcomes.
Establish and maintain high-level collaborative relationships with potential state and local partners.
Present on trauma informed strategies and initiatives at local and state conferences.
Develop and maintain program policies and procedures.
Generate reports, including annual reports and strategic plans.
Attend trainings and conferences to stay up to date on current literature and recommendations on trauma informed initiatives and research.
Encourage cross collaboration to achieve state, and FRP goals and objectives.
Champion an equity-driven approach to program improvement.
Respond to program requests from client upper management.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
A bachelor's degree in a public health-related or similar field, such as health promotion, health communication, health education, social work, or public health is preferred.

Difficulty of Work
Incumbent must be able to think critically and have the analytical ability to develop and enhance systems to acquire the best strategies for prevention. Incumbent must be able to work within program guidelines and within established timeframes. Incumbent must be able to work well independently and know when to solicit advice and/or assistance from the Director. Incumbent must be flexible and adaptable to policy changes and must be able to use sound judgement and decision-making ability to make appropriate recommendations.
This position requires significant attention to detail and the ability to work with internal and external partners. Incumbent must be able to resolve problems, logically develop ideas, interpret policy, and have superb oral and written skills.
This position requires travel to meetings state-wide and for engagement work in communities.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.
Responsibility
Incumbent has a high-level responsibility for ensuring compliance with state and federal grant requirements and adherence to client and FRP goals and objectives. The position will serve as the program's liaison to schools, mental health providers, law enforcement agencies, and other youth-serving and justice agencies. This position will be responsible for facilitating community meetings and developing written reports, grant proposals, and other documentation pertaining to prevention programs.
This position will report to the Trauma Informed Communities Programs Director of the Fatality Review and Prevention Division. The Incumbent will keep the Director informed regarding matters that may impact the goals, vision, and mission of the program. Incumbent will receive some instruction from the Director, but independent judgement is critical for daily operations. Incumbent must follow the program policies and procedures and manage their time to complete assignments within established timeframes. Incumbent will apply HIPAA and FERPA policies where applicable and maintain confidentiality when communicating with program partners.
Work Relationships:
Incumbent will maintain contact with the Trauma Informed Communities Programs Director, the FRP Division Director, FRP Staff, Executive Staff, and other Division Staff. Incumbent will work with Division Staff, public, state, and federal representatives, and other stakeholders in the public and private sectors for the purpose of developing and monitoring effective development of prevention program activities. Work may be reviewed by various program staff for compliance with policy and agency program goals.
Physical Effort:
The position is primarily a desk job with occasional in-state travel to aid in technical assistance, trainings, and attend conference and planning events. Work is performed in an office or remote environment for 7.5 hours per day from Monday through Friday. This position requires extensive computer use and the ability to be mobile in small, confined spaces. Incumbent must be able to lift and transport boxes and education materials, as necessary.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed in a HIPAA covered, limited access office environment that contains a constant and moderate level of background phone conversation. Incumbent must be able to concentrate under these conditions. Significant in-state travel is required. Working directly with communities is required.
Require/Desire Skills
Bachelor's degree in public health-related or similar field, i.e. health communication, health education, social work. Required 4 Years

Pay Range*: $25- $28/hr
