Job Description

About The Engine Accelerator

The Engine Accelerator supports Tough Tech teams who are working to solve the world’s toughest challenges through the convergence of science and engineering. We curate comprehensive programs, provide access to specialized infrastructure including labs, equipment, tools, and workspace as well as convene the ecosystem necessary to build transformative technologies from idea to impact.

About the Role

As Program Director of Emerging Ecosystems, your primary focus will be implementing key initiatives aimed at fostering innovation by supporting the commercialization of technology out of academic and institutional settings and preparing teams for investment and growth. You will be pivotal in supporting and scaling programs key to The Engine Accelerator and The National Science Foundation’s Regional Innovation Engines Builder Platform. Working cross-functionally with the Engine and Builder Platform Teams, you'll scale our programming to meet the diverse needs of NSF Awardees.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct evaluations to gauge the effectiveness of existing programs, pinpointing areas for scale-up and refinement.
  • Harvest and channel feedback from The Engine and Builder Platform leadership teams and key partners for ongoing improvement and fine-tuning of platform offerings.
  • Plan, orchestrate, and roll out multiple programs designed to accelerate innovation and commercialization projects among all NSF Awardees.
  • Collaborate closely with the NSF Platform Team to recognize and cater to the distinct needs of Awardees, tailoring program elements as necessary.
  • Build strong relationships through various ecosystems and stakeholders to create a pathway to programming opportunities and DEI initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree and/or substantial experience in academic research commercialization.
  • Demonstrable expertise in managing hybrid teams across multiple geographical zones.
  • Proficiency in project management methodologies, agile practices, and cross-functional team leadership.
  • Acquaintance with emerging technologies and corresponding public policy trends.
  • Outstanding communication skills with a knack for building strong relationships among a diverse stakeholder group.
  • Prior experience in NSF-funded programs or research-centered initiatives is a significant asset.
  • An extraordinary listener and communicator, committed to mission fulfillment over personal recognition.
  • Mission oriented, passionate innovation and technology solving global challenges and is relentless in accelerating the pathway for our constituents.
  • Ability to prioritize mission and team over personal recognition.

Outcomes

  • Lead multiple programs to become a cornerstone for innovation and commercialization success among all NSF Awardees, and beyond.
  • Implement a robust feedback loop that will directly contribute to the iterative improvement of all program offerings.
  • Position The Engine and the Builder Platform as leaders in facilitating impactful innovation ecosystems.
