Program Manager II / Program Manager Senior
Plan, organize, direct, and control all activities of technology research & development (R&D) programs, architecture studies, and hardware demonstrations to satisfy contractual requirements and meet financial commitments to the company, while ensuring good employee and customer relations. This position reports to the Advanced Technologies & Missions (ATM) business area, which develops future discriminators for Ball's National Defense Strategic Business Unit. ATM programs are R&D in nature and frequently begin with loosely defined requirements, which must be developed and refined throughout program execution.
What You'll Do:
  • Responsible for overall R&D program leadership, direction and guidance that ensures successful program execution in accordance with the budget, schedule, contract, Statement of Work (SOW) and technical specifications. Work with customers and program teams to refine and revise Statements of Work (SOWs) and technical specifications when needed.
  • Provide sound leadership and team building to motivate, influence, and effectively leverage program staff to achieve programmatic goals.
  • Resolve conflicts, demands, and priorities on assigned programs.
  • Create a motivational environment where team members understand the mission, are fully engaged and empowered to execute, and are recognized for their performance.
  • Develop and monitor fidelity of the program baseline including definition of tasks, program budgets, and program schedules.
  • Employ proactive risk & opportunity management processes and practices to mitigate or capture potential program issues and improvements.
  • Identify staff, resources, standards, processes, procedures, and tools essential for the successful completion of a program.
  • Ensure that program requirements, purposes, objectives, and expectations are defined and communicated to the internal team and subcontractors. Develop and practice good internal/external communication systems.
  • Responsible for the program's major metrics - sales, bookings, profit, and the customer relationship.
  • Act as the main interface with customers and ATM leadership on all program related subjects. Work closely with ATM management to communicate program progress and resolve issues and concerns.
  • Lead change proposal efforts for program including pre-coordination with customer to establish expectations. Recognize, develop, and work to win potential follow-on work, increased scope, and additional programs within the appropriate program customer contacts.
  • Work unplanned program issues to a best solution, including development of plans forward, escalation and increased resources, as required.
  • Ensure that all business is conducted using the highest ethical standards and in compliance with all applicable laws, statutes, and regulations. Identify and ensure required compliance with the government and company regulation, policies/procedures and guidelines; negotiate acceptance/ approval of all program plans with internal interfaces and the customer.
  • Employ Earned Value (EV) and Earned Value Management (EVM) processes and practices including variance reporting.
  • Coordinate the shared use of capital assets and company facilities with other programs.
  • Manage and support proposals as requested.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

What You'll Need:
  • Program Manager II - BS/BA in related field plus 12 years or more related experience.
  • Program Manager Senior - BS/BA in related field plus 15 years or more related experience.
  • Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master's Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • Master's degree in Systems Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Mathematics preferred.
  • A current, active TS/SCI security clearance is required.

On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site three or more days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between Ball campuses and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.

  • Work is performed in an office environment, laboratory, cleanroom, or production floor.

Verification that your current security clearance or government customer access meets the requirement for this position will be required.
Relocation for this position is not available.
Compensation & Benefits:
  • HIRING SALARY RANGE FOR PROGRAM MANAGER II: $157,500 - $216,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
  • HIRING SALARY RANGE FOR PROGRAM MANAGER SENIOR: $175,500 - $243,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.) Subject to business performance and recommendations of management, this role may be eligible to participate in an incentive compensation plan.
