Program Scrum Master

ACCOUNTABILITY
The Digital Program Scrum Master will be joining a team tasked to redefine VyStar's Digital Member Experience. This is a passionate team that obsesses over the member experience through data-driven analysis, validated learning, journey mapping, and experimentation to deliver digital experiences and capabilities that will ultimately empower and delight our members. To succeed, you must possess a bias toward action, you try new things, and sometimes you fail but constantly learn and move forward enabling yourself and those around you to get around roadblocks and stay focused on our goals.

The Digital Program Scrum Master is accountable for the program level planning, coordination, and facilitation of the agile events and processes and assisting teams in delivering value through the Digital Program. The Digital Program Scrum Master is responsible for increasing agile growth of the Digital Member Experience teams and driving continuous improvement. The Digital Program Scrum Master is responsible for leading, coaching, guiding, and growing the team level Scrum Masters that serve on the Digital Program. The Digital Program Scrum Master is responsible for visualizing and communicating key Program metrics that are informed by the product goals and vision.

Provides hands-on preparation for and facilitation of effective program events such as Scrum of Scrums, Sprint Review, and program planning. Facilitates organizational process and controls and ensures completion by the teams. Helps teams grow and improve, coaches people to follow the process, and guides people in problem identification and decision-making. Creates an opportunity for accountability by clarifying expectations, identifying gaps in expectations, and holding discussions with team members. Thinks critically, is able to turn data into knowledge and promotes visibility and transparency through regular, consistent communications. Is passionate about agile and able to influence without power or control. Capable of handling a variety of detail-oriented tasks concurrently and must demonstrate poise and the ability to work with and/or serve a wide variety of individuals and personalities at all times. Able to work cross-functionally with team members, business partners, stakeholders, and vendor partners to resolve a variety of challenges and questions to operate the business. Possesses a technical understanding of software development and technology to contribute effectively to this role.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Agile Program Management & Delivery for Digital Experience
  • This is an emerging discipline that will build and grow over time to provide leadership and facilitate the day-to-day coordination, collaboration, and reporting within a scaled-Agile environment in Digital and within a shared services model in the credit union. Actively partners cross-functionally to deliver Digital initiatives within an Agile delivery culture. Leads and guides team level Scrum Masters and works collaboratively to aggregate team level information for the Program. Ensures teams deliver prioritized outcomes that support the product goals and vision. Provides visibility into team progress towards program goals, objectives, and outcomes. Effectively facilitates program events and identifies opportunities to continuously improve. Maintains an understanding of organizational processes and controls and ensure teams adhere to the process. Acquires and applies knowledge of Digital products and technology toward identification of dependencies, risks, and impediments. Causes the removal of impediments to the Program including escalation with the appropriate business partners or stakeholders.


Reporting & Story Telling for Digital Experience
  • Effectively communicates across the Program and ensures the appropriate progress tools, information radiators, and reports effectively provide transparency to the Program's progress/productivity. Creates and maintains reporting to visualize the performance of the teams with the appropriate metrics. Develops and maintains program milestone/delivery tracking boards and release timelines. Keeps business partners and stakeholders informed of the team's progress toward product launches and releases. Ensures organizational feedback loops and communication plans are established to support continuous improvement. Assists with assignments and allocations of people on the teams within the Digital Program. Supports Digital Leaders by creating content for presentations for board, executive, stakeholder, and business partner audiences.


Agile Coaching for Digital Experience and Digital Agile Council (DAC)

  • Champions agile change and promote agile practices and mindset to empower teams and inspire positive change in the Digital organization. Encourages continuous education and training opportunities and serve as an overall resource in agile for the Digital organization. Coaches and grows team level Scrum Masters on the Digital Program to enhance their effectiveness and capability. Spot coaches to ensure optimum value delivery for the program. Teaches Digital teams to hold themselves accountable to the commitments they make. Creates self-governing structures that empower Digital teams to make decisions. Leads and drives the completion of agile improvement items as assigned. Empathizes with others and create an environment of mutual influence and persuade rather than uses authority. Partners with Agile coach to integrate the Digital Program practices and work products with the broader Agile delivery culture at VyStar.


  • Champion agile change and serve on a team dedicated to managing agile improvement items, providing agile education and training opportunities, and working to guide/coach others about agile. Co-own an emergent ordered list / backlog of what is needed to improve the Digital agile operating models. Remove process impediments to agility. Ensure organizational feedback loops and communication plans are established to support continuous improvement. Actively participate / lead the prescribed events for the DAC including daily stand-ups, backlog refinement / replenishment, and retrospectives. Lead and drive the completion of agile improvement items as assigned.


JOB QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATON AND EXPERIENCE
  • A Bachelor's degree is required.
  • 8 years of experience in role with practical experience as a Scrum Master with progressive responsibility in an agile or iterative delivery environment.
  • 5 years of experience in Information Technology and in role that understands software development and quality assurance and can navigate technical problems and complexities.
  • 2 years of experience in role with practical experience as a change agent leading process improvements.
  • 2 years of experience in role with hands-on experience leading and directing the planning, execution, and delivery of project deliverables.
  • 1 year of experience in financial services and in role that understands how the business operates and can translate into delivering and/or driving business outcomes.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Advanced knowledge of agile theory, valeus, definitios, roles, and events (Kanban, Scrum, Scaled-Agile)
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Work Management Tools (JIRA, Azure DevOps, Microsoft Project) preferred
  • Roadmap Tools (Aha, Roadmunk) preferred
  • Process Mapping Tools (Visio, Miro)
  • Collaboration Tools (Confluence, Miro, Mural)
  • Exceptional presentation skills necessary to communicate, and persuade, a wide range of audiences.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and willing to embrace empiricism and run experiments.
  • Comfortable working within the dynamics of a group and eliciting cooperation from internal and external partners at all levels.
  • Strong desire to learn new things and willingness to push beyond your comfort zone.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills necessary to manage and share information with others.
  • Strong active listening skills essential to confirm understanding and recognize the interests and concerns of others
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of dependencies across VyStar products, processes, and systems.

  • A foundational understanding of the digital user experiences in financial services applications to include digital banking, member acquisition, loan applications and other product and service delivery.
  • A solid understanding of agile principles and frameworks in product management or software development


CERTIFICATIONS
  • Agile (required) - Professional Scrum Master (PSM) by Scrum.org or Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) by ScrumAlliance
  • PMI (alternatives considered) - Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP) or Disciplined Agile Senior Scrum Master (DASSM)
