Summary

This Program Support Assistant position is being recruited for the VBA Central/Regional Office, Support Services Division (SSD), located in Louisville, Kentucky. The incumbent will provide program, technical and administrative assistance to the SSD Chief and other subordinate management within the division.

Specialized Experience:
  • GS-06 grade level: Applicants must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-05) in the federal, state, local, private or other service that equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position.
    • Specialized experience for this position is defined as: (1) Preparing designated reports; (2) maintaining control of designated reports; (3) assisting in the management of mail processing to include priority mail, express mail, identifying suspicious packages, etc.; (4) ensuring adequate supplies are maintained to support continuous operations; (5) analyzes supply levels on a recurring basis to determine the rate of utilization; (6) advises when supply orders are required; (7) provides guidance and assistance on procedures, report requirements, deadlines and related matters to assure compliance with policies.

There is no for substitution of Education for the Specialized Experience at the Grade level of GS-06.

Note: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills, and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience you document, to include volunteer experience.

Education

There is no education substitute at the GS-06 grade level.

This is not a Virtual/Remote Position.

Work Schedule: Regular office hours, Monday -Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM. Alternate work Schedules may be available.

Physical Requirements: The work is mostly sedentary. However, there may be some physical effort such as standing, walking,
bending, and / or carrying of light items such as files, books, and supplies. The work requires no special physical demands.

Promotion Potential: There is no promotion potential within this position, as it is being filled at the full performance level of GS-06.

This position may be authorized for telework. Telework eligibility may be discussed during the interview process. Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. VA may offer newly-appointed federal employee's credit for their job-related non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
